Journal ArticleDOI
A systematic review on mediators between adversity and psychosis: potential targets for treatment.
Luis Alameda,Victoria Rodriguez,Ewan Carr,Monica Aas,Giulia Trotta,Paolo Marino,Natasha Vorontsova,Andres Herane-Vives,Romayne Gadelrab,Edoardo Spinazzola,Marta Di Forti,Craig Morgan,Robin M. Murray +12 more
TL;DR: Evidence is found suggesting that various overlapping and not competing pathways involving post-traumatic and mood symptoms, as well as negative cognitions contribute partially to the link between CA and psychosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association Between Specific Childhood Adversities and Symptom Dimensions in People With Psychosis: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Luis Alameda,Luis Alameda,Luis Alameda,Angeline Christy,Victoria Rodriguez,Gonzalo Salazar de Pablo,Gonzalo Salazar de Pablo,Madeleine Thrush,Yi Shen,Beatriz Alameda,Edoardo Spinazzola,Eduardo Iacoponi,Eduardo Iacoponi,Giulia Trotta,Ewan Carr,Miguel Ruiz Veguilla,Monica Aas,Monica Aas,Monica Aas,Craig Morgan,Robin M. Murray +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors systematically examined quantitatively the association between broadly defined childhood adversity (CA), abuse (sexual/physical/emotional), and neglect (physical /emotional) subtypes, with positive, negative, depressive, manic, and disorganized dimensions in those with psychosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adverse effects of heavy cannabis use: even plants can harm the brain
Lucia Sideli,Giulia Trotta,Edoardo Spinazzola,Edoardo Spinazzola,Caterina La Cascia,Marta Di Forti,Marta Di Forti,Marta Di Forti +7 more
TL;DR: This review aims to challenge the widespread view that cannabis being a “plant” does not carry adverse effects, and review the evidence concerning the effects of cannabis use on mental health and cognition.
Journal ArticleDOI
Exploring the Interplay Between Adversity, Neurocognition, Social Cognition, and Functional Outcome in People With Psychosis: A Narrative Review.
Victoria Rodriguez,Monica Aas,Monica Aas,Monica Aas,Natasha Vorontsova,Giulia Trotta,Romayne Gadelrab,Navneet Kaur Rooprai,Luis Alameda,Luis Alameda,Luis Alameda +10 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors explore the evidence on whether deficits in neurocognitive and social cognitive domains may act as possible putative mechanism linking adversity with functioning in people with psychosis, and show available evidence supporting the link between adversity and poorer functioning in psychosis, especially in chronic stages.
Journal ArticleDOI
Childhood Maltreatment, Educational Attainment, and IQ: Findings From a Multicentric Case-control Study of First-episode Psychosis (EU-GEI).
Lucia Sideli,Adriano Schimmenti,Daniele La Barbera,Caterina La Cascia,Laura Ferraro,Monica Aas,Luis Alameda,Eva Velthorst,Helen L. TL;DR: The role of childhood maltreatment in shaping academic outcomes and cognition of people with FEP as well as controls is underscored, and the association between childhood malt treatment and Intelligence Quotient seems stronger among controls compared to people with psychosis.
