Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of outcomes with citalopram for depression using measurement-based care in STAR*D: implications for clinical practice
Madhukar H. Trivedi,A. John Rush,Stephen R. Wisniewski,Andrew A. Nierenberg,Diane Warden,Louise Ritz,Grayson Norquist,Robert H Howland,Barry D. Lebowitz,Patrick J. McGrath,Kathy Shores-Wilson,Melanie M. Biggs,Goundappa K. Balasubramani,Maurizio Fava +13 more
TL;DR: The response and remission rates in this highly generalizable sample with substantial axis I and axis III comorbidity closely resemble those seen in 8-week efficacy trials.
Journal ArticleDOI
Difference in treatment outcome in outpatients with anxious versus nonanxious depression: a STAR*D report.
Maurizio Fava,A. John Rush,Jonathan E. Alpert,Goundappa K. Balasubramani,Stephen R. Wisniewski,Cheryl N. Carmin,Melanie M. Biggs,Sidney Zisook,Andrew F. Leuchter,Robert H Howland,Diane Warden,Madhukar H. Trivedi +11 more
TL;DR: Remission was significantly less likely and took longer to occur in these patients than in those with nonanxious depression, and ratings of side effect frequency, intensity, and burden, as well as the number of serious adverse events, were significantly greater in the anxious depression group.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Age at Onset on the Course of Major Depressive Disorder
Sidney Zisook,Ira M. Lesser,Jonathan W. Stewart,Stephen R. Wisniewski,Goundappa K. Balasubramani,Maurizio Fava,William S. Gilmer,M.P.H. Timothy R. Dresselhaus,Michael E. Thase,Andrew A. Nierenberg,Madhukar H. Trivedi,A. John Rush +11 more
TL;DR: Although age at onset does not define distinct depressive subgroups, earlier onset is associated with multiple indicators of greater illness burden across a wide range of indicators.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gender differences in depression: Findings from the STAR*D study ☆
Sheila M. Marcus,Elizabeth A. Young,Kevin B. Kerber,Susan G. Kornstein,Amy Farabaugh,Jeff Mitchell,Stephen R. Wisniewski,Goundappa K. Balasubramani,Madhukar H. Trivedi,A. John Rush +9 more
TL;DR: The gender-specific rate of MDD in this study population is proportional to rates found in community samples with a 1.7:1 prevalence ofMDD in women vs. men which argues against increased treatment seeking in women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Clinical correlates and symptom patterns of anxious depression among patients with major depressive disorder in STAR*D.
Maurizio Fava,Jonathan E. Alpert,Cheryl N. Carmin,Stephen R. Wisniewski,Madhukar H. Trivedi,Melanie M. Biggs,Kathy Shores-Wilson,Don Morgan,Terry Schwartz,Goundappa K. Balasubramani,A. John Rush +10 more
TL;DR: This study supports specific clinical and sociodemographic correlates of MDD associated with high levels of anxiety (anxious depression) and defines its clinical correlates and symptom patterns.
