Journal ArticleDOI
Total polyphenol content and antioxidant capacity of commercially available tea (Camellia sinensis) in Argentina.
TL;DR: This is the first systematic screening for the quantification of polyphenols and antioxidant activity in tea commercialized in Argentine markets and concludes that Argentine tea is of very good quality when compared to teas from other sources.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phenolic compounds in seven South American Ilex species
TL;DR: An HPLC method using UV with Photodiode Array Detector was developed for the identification and quantification of caffeoyl derivatives (caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, 3,4-dicaffeoylquinic acid), flavonoid and flavonoids (quercetin, rutin and kaempferol) in seven local congeneric substitutes or adulterants.
Journal ArticleDOI
Flavonoids as antioxidants evaluated by in vitro and in situ liver chemiluminescence.
TL;DR: The in vitro and in vivo effects of these flavonoids and polyphenols may be related to their antioxidant abilities, making them promising substances to be investigated as water-soluble protectors against lipid peroxidation and other free radical-mediated cell injury.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cytotoxic effect of Argentine medicinal plant extracts on human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line
M.J. Ruffa,Graciela Ferraro,Marcelo L. Wagner,M.L Calcagno,Rodolfo Hector Campos,Lucia Cavallaro +5 more
TL;DR: Methanolic extracts from Achyrocline satureioides, unlike those from Celtis spinosa Spreng, Chenopodium ambrosioides L., Petiveria alliacea L., and Plantago major L. showed cytotoxic activity against a human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line, Hep G2.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antioxidant activity of Ilex paraguariensis and related species
TL;DR: In this paper, the antioxidant activity of a group of Ilex ( Ilex spp.) was examined, and related to their content of caffeoyl-derivatives, showing that I. paraguariensis had the highest antioxidant activity when prepared as mate.
