Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of antibodies to hepatitis c virus in spanish patients with hepatocellular carcinoma and hepatic cirrhosis
Jordi Bruix,Xavier Calvet,Josep Costa,Miquel Ventura,Miquel Bruguera,R. Castillo,J.M. Barrera,Guadalupe Ercilla,José María Sánchez-Tapias,Marti Vall,Concepció Brú,Joan Rodés +11 more
TL;DR: The results indicate that HCV infection may have a role in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma, even in patients with chronic liver disease apparently related to other agents such as alcohol, and that this recently identified hepatitis virus may be found in a large proportion of patients with cryptogenic cirrhosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Hepatitis C virus antibodies in chronic alcoholic patients: association with severity of liver injury.
Albert Parés,J.M. Barrera,Joan Caballería,Guadalupe Ercilla,Miquel Bruguera,Llorenç Caballería,Ricardo Castillo,Joan Rodés +7 more
TL;DR: The prevalence of hepatitis C virus antibody and its relationship to the severity of liver disease in chronic alcoholic patients has been assessed, using a recently developed enzyme immunoassay and confirmed by a recombinant immunoblot assay.
Journal ArticleDOI
Human hepatic stellate cells show features of antigen‐presenting cells and stimulate lymphocyte proliferation
Odette Viñas,Ramon Bataller,Pau Sancho-Bru,Pere Ginès,Cristina Berenguer,Carlos Enrich,Josep M. Nicolás,Guadalupe Ercilla,Teresa Gallart,Jordi Vives,Vicente Arroyo,Juan Rodés +11 more
TL;DR: C cultured human HSCs express membrane proteins involved in antigen presentation, including members of the HLA family (HLA‐I and HLA‐II), lipid‐presenting molecules (CD1b and CD1c), and factors involved in T‐cell activation (CD40 and CD80) and modulate T‐lymphocyte proliferation.
Journal ArticleDOI
HLA class II haplotypes in primary sclerosing cholangitis patients from five European populations
Anne Spurkland,S Saarinen,Kirsten Muri Boberg,S A Mitchell,Ulrika Broomé,Llorenç Caballería,E. Ciusani,Roger W. Chapman,Guadalupe Ercilla,O Fausa,Ingebjørg Knutsen,Albert Parés,Floriano Rosina,Olle Olerup,Erik Thorsby,Erik Schrumpf +15 more
TL;DR: The association of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) to HLA class II genes was studied by comparing patients from five different European populations and PSC was found to be positively associated to three different HLAclass II haplotypes.
Journal Article
Immunohistochemical analysis of lymphoid and macrophage cell subsets and their immunologic activation markers in temporal arteritis. Influence of corticosteroid treatment.
Maria C. Cid,Elias Campo,Guadalupe Ercilla,Antonio Palacín,J Vilaseca,Villalta J,Miguel Ingelmo +6 more
TL;DR: The presence of IRC in patients with TA suggests an autoimmune reaction directed against an antigenic substance that resides in the arterial wall and is presented and processed in situ, and Corticosteroids do not modify cellular distribution but induce important functional changes, as demonstrated by the disappearance of interleukin-2 receptor expression in patients treated for more than 4 days.
