Journal ArticleDOI

Revealing the role of catalysts in carbon nanotubes and nanofibers by scanning transmission X-ray microscopy.

TL;DR: Except for prominent catalyst nanoparticle at the tip, tiny catalyst clusters along the tube (fiber) were detected, indicating a migration of the catalysts with the growth of CNTs (CNFs), providing direct evidence on the atomic metal in CNT for oxygen reduction reported in the literature.
Journal ArticleDOI

Probing the electronic structure of graphene sheets with various thicknesses by scanning transmission X-ray microscopy

TL;DR: In this article, the electronic structure of an aggregation of graphene sheets with various thicknesses was probed by scanning transmission X-ray microscopy, and a uniform oxidation of the graphene sheets was observed regardless of the thickness, while in the folded area the result could be strongly affected by the geometry.
Journal ArticleDOI

Revealing the synergetic effects in Ni nanoparticle-carbon nanotube hybrids by scanning transmission X-ray microscopy and their application in the hydrolysis of ammonia borane

TL;DR: The results provide a wealth of detailed information regarding the electronic structure of the NP-CNT hybrids and provide guidance towards the rational design of high-performance catalysts for energy applications.
Journal ArticleDOI

Probing the Interfacial Interaction in Layered-Carbon-Stabilized Iron Oxide Nanostructures: A Soft X-ray Spectroscopic Study.

TL;DR: The results strongly suggest that the interfacial interaction plays a key role for the catalytic performance, and the experimental findings may provide guidance toward rational design of high-performance catalysts.
Journal ArticleDOI

Imaging the electronic structure of carbon nanotubes decorated with Fe2O3 nanoparticles

TL;DR: In this paper, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) with external and internal decoration of Fe2O3 nanoparticles (NPs) were imaged by scanning transmission X-ray microscopy (STXM) with concurrent identification of the electronic structure.
