Comparative Effectiveness of Alkaline Flooding and Alkaline–Surfactant Flooding for Improved Heavy-Oil Recovery

TL;DR: In this article, results of a laboratory investigation, including sandpack flooding experiments and micromodel flooding studies, for assessing the suitability and effectiveness of alkaline flooding and alkaline-surfactant (AS) flooding for heavy-oil recovery.
Journal ArticleDOI

Potential of alkaline flooding to enhance heavy oil recovery through water-in-oil emulsification

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the microscopic displacement mechanisms for enhancing heavy oil recovery and the effect of the injection parameters on displacement efficiency using micromodels and sandpacks, and showed that the penetration of the alkaline solution into the crude oil and the subsequent formation of a water-in-oil (W/O) emulsion reduce the mobility of the water phase and divert the injected water into the unswept region, thereby improving the sweep efficiency.
Journal ArticleDOI

Zeta potential of limestone in a large range of salinity

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of the type and concentration of inorganic salts, the pH, and the adsorption of the oil polar fractions, naphthenic acid and cationic surfactant on the zeta potential of limestone in a large range of salinity were investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of Microscopic Displacement Mechanisms of Alkaline Flooding for Enhanced Heavy-Oil Recovery

TL;DR: In this paper, the microscopic displacement mechanisms of alkaline flooding for enhanced heavy-oil recovery were investigated using a micromodel, and it was observed that the higher the alkaline concentration, the more easily the solution penetrates in the oil phase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Study on organic alkali-surfactant-polymer flooding for enhanced ordinary heavy oil recovery

TL;DR: In this article, an organic alkali-surfactant-polymer (OASP) flooding system is established, which exhibits good compatibility with the brine containing high-valent metal ions.
