Backscattering enhancement and clustering effects of randomly distributed dielectric cylinders overlying a dielectric half space based on Monte-Carlo simulations

TL;DR: In this article, Monte-Carlo simulations of scattering by vertical dielectric cylinders overlying a half space using the Foldy-Lax multiple-scattering equations were performed to determine the angular width of a scattering layer with a small optical thickness.
Journal ArticleDOI

Observations of the 10 May 2010 Tornado Outbreak Using OU-PRIME: Potential for New Science with High-Resolution Polarimetric Radar

TL;DR: A tornado outbreak occurred in central Oklahoma on 10 May 2010, including two EF-4 tornadoes with enhanced Fujita scale ratings of 4 (EF-4). Tragically, three deaths were reported along with significant property damage as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Phased Array Radar Polarimetry for Weather Sensing: A Theoretical Formulation for Bias Corrections

TL;DR: In this paper, a theory of phased array radar (PAR) polarimetry is developed to establish the relation between electric fields at the antenna of the PAR and the fields in a resolution volume filled with hydrometeors.

Weather Radar Polarimetry

Guifu Zhang
TL;DR: In this article, the authors present the fundamentals of polarimetric radar remote sensing through understanding wave scattering and propagation in geophysical media filled with hydrometers and other objects, and illustrate applications of the radar measurements in hydrometer classification, particle size distribution retrievals, microphysical parameterization, and weather quantification and forecast.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Dual-Polarized Series-Fed Microstrip Antenna Array With Very High Polarization Purity for Weather Measurements

TL;DR: In this paper, the design and analysis of a dual-polarization frequency scanning array antenna, operating in a frequency band of 2.7-3.0 GHz, for weather measurement applications are presented.
