Journal ArticleDOI

Cardiopulmonary Effects of Matching Positive End-Expiratory Pressure to Abdominal Pressure in Concomitant Abdominal Hypertension and Acute Lung Injury

TL;DR: Simultaneous intra-abdominal hypertension and acute lung injury produce important impairments in the respiratory physiology and PEEP equalization to AP may improve the respiratory performance, nevertheless with a secondary hemodynamic derangement.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of ventilatory settings on static and functional haemodynamic parameters during experimental hypovolaemia

TL;DR: Pulse pressure variation measurement is influenced by cyclic variations in intrathoracic pressure, such as those caused by augmentations in tidal volume, although to a lesser extent.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prone position ventilation, recruitment maneuver and intravenous zanamivir in severe refractory hypoxemia caused by influenza A (H1N1).

TL;DR: The case of a patient with ARDS secondary to influenza A(H1N1) on whom recruitment maneuvers and ventilation in the prone position were used for the treatment of refractoryhypoxemia, along with corticosteroids, oseltamivir, and intravenous zanamivIR is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

A randomized trial of noninvasive positive end expiratory pressure in patients with acquired immune deficiency syndrome and hypoxemic respiratory failure.

TL;DR: AIDS patients with hypoxemic respiratory failure improve oxygenation in response to a progressive sequential elevation of PEEP, however, corresponding elevations in PaCO2 limit the recommended level of PEP to 10 cm H2O.
