Journal ArticleDOI
Mask mechanics and leak dynamics during noninvasive pressure support ventilation: a bench study
Guilherme Schettino,Mauro R. Tucci,Rogério Figueredo de Sousa,Carmen Silvia Valente Barbas,Marcelo B. P. Amato,Carlos Roberto Ribeiro de Carvalho +5 more
TL;DR: Pmask-fit and Pmask-occl can be easily measured in pneumatic cushioned masks and the data obtained may be useful to guide mask fit and inspiratory pressure set during noninvasive positive pressure ventilation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Noninvasive ventilation immediately after extubation improves weaning outcome after acute respiratory failure: a randomized controlled trial
Susana R Ornico,Suzana Margareth Lobo,H. S. Sanches,Maristela Deberaldini,Luciane T Tófoli,Ana M Vidal,Guilherme Schettino,Marcelo B. M Amato,Carlos Roberto Ribeiro de Carvalho,Carmen Silvia Valente Barbas +9 more
TL;DR: In this study population, NIV prevented 48 hours reintubation if applied immediately after elective extubation in patients with more than 3 days of ARF when compared with the OM group.
Journal ArticleDOI
Emotional Disorders in Pairs of Patients and Their Family Members during and after ICU Stay
TL;DR: Anxiety, depression and PTSD symptoms were higher in family members than in the patients, and age and symptoms of anxiety and depression during ICU were the major determinants for PTSD at 30-days.
Journal ArticleDOI
Readmission to the intensive care unit: Incidence, risk factors, resource use, and outcomes a retrospective cohort study
Carolina Rodrigues Ponzoni,Thiago Domingos Corrêa,Roberto Rabello Filho,Ary Serpa Neto,Murillo Santucci Cesar de Assunção,Andreia Pardini,Guilherme Schettino +6 more
TL;DR: Readmissions to the ICU were frequent and strongly related to poor outcomes, and the degree to which ICU readmissions are preventable as well as the main causes of preventable ICu readmissions need to be further determined.
Journal ArticleDOI
Anxiety, depression, and satisfaction in close relatives of patients in an open visiting policy intensive care unit in Brazil
TL;DR: Visiting hours were associated with the satisfaction score and were a protective factor for family members with higher HADS score and patients' severity had a trend toward dissatisfaction and affected emotional disorders.
