With digital equipment becoming increasingly networked, either on wired or wireless networks, for personal and professional use alike, distributed software systems have become a crucial element in information and communications technologies. The study of these systems forms the core of the ARLES' work, which is specifically concerned with defining new system software architectures, based on the use of emerging networking technologies. In this context, we concentrate on the study of distributed systems which bring to life the vision of ubiquitous computing systems, also known as ambient intelligence.

Carbon dots: synthesis, formation mechanism, fluorescence origin and sensing applications

Two-dimensional (2D) nanostructures are highly attractive for fabricating nanodevices due to their high surface-to-volume ratio and good compatibility with device design. In recent years 2D nanostructures of various materials including metal oxides, graphene, metal dichalcogenides, phosphorene, BN and MXenes, have demonstrated significant potential for gas sensors. This review aims to provide the most recent advancements in utilization of various 2D nanomaterials for gas sensing. The common methods for the preparation of 2D nanostructures are briefly summarized first. The focus is then placed on the sensing performances provided by devices integrating 2D nanostructures. Strategies for optimizing the sensing features are also discussed. By combining both the experimental results and the theoretical studies available, structure-properties correlations are discussed. The conclusion gives some perspectives on the open challenges and future prospects for engineering advanced 2D nanostructures for high-performance gas sensors devices.

Truly Fluorescent Excitation-Dependent Carbon Dots and Their Applications in Multicolor Cellular Imaging and Multidimensional Sensing

Sulfur-doped carbon dots (S-doped C-dots)were synthesized using a simple and straightforward hydrothermal method. The as-prepared S-doped C-dots exhibit significant fluorescence quantum yield (67%) and unique emission behavior. The spherical S-doped C-dots have an average diameter of 4.6 nm and the fluorescence of S-doped C-dots can be effectively and selectively quenched by Fe3+ ions. Thus, S-doped C-dots were applied as probes toward Fe3+ detection, exhibiting a limit of detection of 0.1 μM.

Analysis of synergistic effect between graphene and octahedral cuprous oxide in cuprous oxide-graphene composites and their photocatalytic application

Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2)-based humidity sensors suffer from low sensitivity and long response time. Herein, this problem has been effectively solved by modifying MoS2 nanosheets using carbon dots (CDs) with abundant functional groups via a convenient and facile hydrothermal method. The mechanism for the enhanced humidity response of CD-modified MoS2 has been proposed through the characterization of physical and chemical properties of the as-prepared composites. The introduction of CDs is expected to enhance the adsorption of water molecules by increasing the specific surface area and surface active sites of the MoS2 nanosheets. Moreover, a three-dimensional conductive network is jointly established by the chemisorbed water molecules, CDs, and MoS2 nanosheets, which ensures continuous transmission of charges in a low humidity environment. As a result, the response performance and the repeatability have been significantly improved in CD-MoS2-based humidity sensors. The response curve shows an excellent linear property in the range of 15-80% RH. This study demonstrates the potential applications of CD-modified two-dimensional nanomaterials with their improved performance towards humidity sensing.

Carbon dot-doped molybdenum disulfide sheet-based humidity sensor and preparation method thereof

The invention discloses a method for preparing a tungsten disulfide nanorod. The method comprises the following steps: a, adding tungsten disulfide powder to a mixed solvent of water and ethanol and carrying out hydrothermal synthesis reaction; and b, carrying out ultrasonic treatment and centrifugation on the reacted solution, thus obtaining the tungsten disulfide nanorod. According to the preparation method, the conditions are mild, reaction is friendly to the environment, used reagents are novel and simple; therefore, the preparation method is suitable for large-scale preparation and industrial production and has an application prospect.
