Objective Various genetic and environmental risk factors have been shown to be associated with the incidence of rheumatic diseases. However, the pathogenesis of rheumatic diseases poorly understood. Several studies have shown associations of ABO blood groups with various diseases. Our study aimed to determine whether there is an association between the types of rheumatic diseases and ABO and Rh blood groups. Material and Methods The study included the patients, followed up at the Immunology-Rheumatology clinic between January 2016 and December 2016 for diagnosis of rheumatic disease, who had an ABO Rh blood data. Age, gender, type of rheumatic disease, ABO Rh blood groups were recorded. Results When 823 patients were assessed for blood types, 42.5% patients had A type, 33.2% had O type, 15.4% had B type, and 8.9% had AB type. There was significant difference in the distribution of blood types in rheumatic diseases. While SpA, vasculitis, UCTD, Behcet's and RA were more common in the patients with A blood type; FMF, SLE, SSc and SjS were more common in the patients with O blood type. In addition, the blood type where all the diseases are observed the least commonly was AB. There was significant difference in the distribution of Rh factor in rheumatic diseases. 92.2% patients were Rh positive and 7.8% patients were Rh negative. Conclusion In our study, we thought that the higher incidence of different rheumatic diseases in different blood types was associated with different genetic predisposition.

ABO blood groups and rheumatic diseases.

It has been shown that the frequency of ABO blood groups differs between populations [1,3]. Determination of the frequency of blood groups in a particular region facilitates timely provision of blood and blood products. There are many studies on the distribution of blood groups in Turkey [4-10]; however, none have considered Kayseri Province, a densely populated city in central Anatolia. As such, the present study aimed to determine the frequency of blood group types in Kayseri Province in order to facilitate to reach the appropriate blood type .

ABO and Rh Blood Group Distribution in Kayseri Province, Turkey.

Objective: An understanding of the distribution of blood groups in a city is useful for individuals in need. In this study, we aimed to determine the distribution rates of ABO and Rh blood groups in İstanbul Province. Methods: This retrospective study was conducted by investigating the records of 6041 healthy blood donors who visited the Bezmialem Vakif University Faculty of Medicine, Blood Bank, between 1st January, 2011 and 31st December, 2013. ABO and Rh blood groups were examined by lam agglutination, micro plate agglutination, or gel centrifugation methods. Results: In this study, the frequency of the blood groups A, O, B, and AB were found to be 43.44%, 33.02%, 15%, and 8.54%, respectively. Rh (+) positivity was determined in 5192 cases (85.95%) and Rh (-) negativity was determined in 849 cases (14.05%). The frequency of intra-group Rh was found to be 87.84% of Rh (+) and 12.16% of Rh (-) in blood group A, 87.52% of Rh (+) and 14.48% of Rh (-) in blood group O, 82.12% of Rh (+) and 17.88% of Rh (-) in blood group B, and 76.94% of Rh (+) and 23.06% of Rh (-) in blood group AB. A majority of the blood donors were males (92.42%), and 69.28% were in the age group of 25–44 years. Conclusion: ABO and Rh blood group distribution rates in our region were similar to the general rates in Turkey. There was a positive correlation between the frequency of ABO blood group type and Rh positivity rate in each group. We believe that the present study will contribute to the literature with respect to the database of blood groups.

ABO and Rh Blood Group Distribution in Istanbul Province (Turkey)

Aim Social, emotional, cognitive and language development of infants is provided with early diagnosis of hearing deficit. Hearing deficit is reported with a rate of 1-6 in 1000 live births in healthy newborns, while it reaches up to 10-30 in 1000 live births in newborns with risk factors. We aimed to compile the results of the hearing screening program applied in our hospital. Material and methods The records of the hearing screening program were examined and the results were compiled by reaching the records of the patients who were found to have hearing deficit. Results Hearing test was applied in a total of 142 128 patients between 2005 and 2011. Hearing test was performed by evoked autoaucistic emission for two times in 26 690 of these patients and for three times in 2 412. A diagnosis of hearing deficit was made in 385 patients (0.27%) after application of ARB (Auditory Brainstem Response). The medical records of 171 of the patients who were referred for advanced investigations and treatment were obtained. 116 of these patients had a history of hospitalization in neonatal intensive care unit, while 55 patients had no history of hospitalization in neonatal intensive care unit. 49 of the patients had a gestational age below the 32(th) week and 122 had a gestational age above the 32(th) week. The median gestational age and birth weight values and ranges were found to be 35 (22-43) and 2 140 g (580-4 590 g), respectively. The risk factors included intrauterine growth retardation (n=24), multiple pregnancy (n=22), hyperbilirubinemia (n=74), blood exchange because of hyperbilirubinemia (n=7), sepsis (n=52), hypoglycemia (n=2), use of aminoglycoside and glycopeptide (n=99), use of furosemide (n=27), mechanical ventilation therapy (n=37), polycythemia (n=12), prenatal asphyxia (n=2), respiratory distress syndrome (n=45), chronic lung disease (n=11), surgery for retinopathy of prematurity (n=8) and hearing deficit in the mother or father (n=7). Conclusions In addition to the necessity of performing hearing screening in all newborns, infants with risk factors should be determined, hearing deficit should be screened with repeated hearing tests and social, emotional, cognitive and language development of the infant should be assured.

In this study we used gel centrifugation to determine the frequency and sex distribution of ABO and Rh blood group antigens among 4,656 neonates (2,317 males, 2,339 females) born at a private hospital in Istanbul. Group A Rh+ was the most frequent blood type and AB Rh- was the least frequent. Female neonates had a higher frequency of Rh+ blood than male neonates. Group A blood was detected most frequently followed by group O, group B, and group AB. Sex was not significantly associated with blood type. These results fall within the range of previously reported blood type frequencies for Turkey. Our data allow the creation of a blood bank database for the hospital.

Frequency of abo and rhesus blood groups among neonates born at a private hospital in istanbul

The history of the studies on blood groups dates back to early 20th century. Today, more than 600 antigenic structure was detected among 29 blood groups. However, ABO and Rh antigenic structure were taken into consideration in transfusion medicine. To know the rates of the blood groups in a city really helps the citizens in need and blood bank employees. There isn’t any study on frequency of blood groups in Denizli. In this study, we aimed to find out the rates of ABO and Rh blood groups in Denizli province and provide new data to the literature. This study is fulfilled by evaluation of 64.840 people, who were applied to Denizli State Hospital for identification of blood groups between January 2005 and August 2009. Blood groups were examined by gel-centrifugation method. In our study, 58.292 (89.9%) people were found Rh positive and 6548 (10.1%) people were found Rh negative. The frequency of the blood groups A, O, B, AB were found in order as 42.6%, 33.3%,16.8%, 7.4% respectively. The rates of blood groups in Denizli are similar throughout Turkey and in city basis. We consider that this study, which is the first in our city, will contribute to the literature.

Yanik hastalarinda enfeksiyonlar cilt bariyerinin bozulmasina bagli olarak onemli bir morbidite ve mortalite nedenidir. Bu calismada yanik hastalarinin yara yeri suruntu kulturlerinde en sik saptanan mikroorganizmalari ve antibiyotik duyarlilik durumlarini belirlemeyi amacladik. Kasim 2008 ile Kasim 2009 arasinda Denizli Devlet Hastanesi Yanik Unitesi’ne kabul edilen kirk dort hastadan saptanan altmis alti pozitif yara yeri suruntu ornegi degerlendirildi. Izole edilen bakterilerde disk difuzyon yontemi kullanilarak antibiyotik duyarliligi saptandi. En sik karsilasilan mikroorganizmalar Pseudomonas aeruginosa (%21,2) metisiline direncli Staphylococcus aureus (%19,7) ve Acinetobacter sp. (%15,1) idi. Gram negatif mikroorganizmalarla kolonize olan olgularda ortalama hastane kalis suresi anlamli olarak daha uzundu (p<0.05). Yanik hastalarinda direncli hastane enfeksiyonlari ile sik karsilasilmaktadir. Kultur ve antibiyogram testleri tedavi protokolunun belirlenmesinde onemli bir yol gostericidir. Hasta yatis suresi uzadikca gram negatif bakterilerle enfeksiyon sansi artmaktadir. Yanikli hastalarda yanik enfeksiyonlarinin kontrolu icin oncelikle yanik alaninin kontaminasyonu engellenmeli, tam izolasyon saglanmalidir.

Yanık olgularında kültür ve antibiyogram sonuçlarının incelenmesi

Isitme kayiplari yenidoganlarda sosyal, duygusal ve zihinsel gelisimi olumsuz yonde etkilemektedir. Konusmave dil gelisiminin olumsuz yonde etkilenmemesi icin isitme kaybi olan yenidoganlarin erken donemde taninmasibuyuk onem arz etmektedir. Erken donemde tani konup tedavisine baslanan cocuklarda konusma ve dil gelisimi,isitmesi normal olan cocuklarin konusma ve dil gelisimine paralel olmaktadir. Bu calismada 2005 2008 yillariarasinda 19.464 yenidogana TEOAE (Transient Evoked Otoacoustic Emissions) testi ve ABR (AuditoryBrainstem Response) testi kullanilarak isitme taramasi yapilmistir. Testler uc asamali olarak gerceklestirilmistir.Ilk olcumlerde TEOAE testini gecemeyen bebeklere, 15 gun sonraki kontrolde TEOAE testi tekrarlanmistir.TEOAE testini gecemeyen bebekler ABR testi ile degerlendirilmistir. ABR testinde 18 (%0,1) yenidoganda ileriderecede sensorinorinal isitme kaybi saptanmistir. Isitme kayipli yenidoganlarin taninmasinda isitme taramatestleri buyuk oneme sahiptir
