Topology optimization of energy absorbing structures with maximum damage constraint

TL;DR: In this paper, a density-based topology optimization framework for plastic energy absorbing structural designs with maximum damage constraint is proposed, which enables topologies to absorb large amount of energy via plastic work before failure occurs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Analysis of three-dimensional curved beams using isogeometric approach

TL;DR: In this article, an isogeometric approach is presented for the formulation of finite elements for arbitrary spatially curved 3-D beams, which employ the same Non-Uniform Rational B-Spline interpolations as used in the CAD representations to interpolate both geometry and unknown fields in the finite element analysis, leading to a seamless transition between complex CAD models utilized by architects and the analysis models used by engineers.
Journal ArticleDOI

Experimental Study on Self-Centering Concrete Wall with Distributed Friction Devices

TL;DR: In this article, a self-centering concrete wall with distributed friction devices is proposed to achieve seismic resilient building structures, where unbonded post-tensioned tendons, running vertically through wall panels, provide a restoring force that pulls the structure back toward its undeformed plumb position after earthquake.
Journal ArticleDOI

Computational design of finite strain auxetic metamaterials via topology optimization and nonlinear homogenization

TL;DR: A novel computational framework for designing metamaterials with negative Poisson's ratio over a large strain range is presented by combining the density-based topology optimization together with a mixed stress/deformation driven nonlinear homogenization method.
