A method is provided in one example embodiment and includes receiving data indicative of a personal position of an end user and receiving image data associated with an object. The image data can be captured by a first camera at a first angle and a second camera at a second angle. The method also includes synthesizing the image data in order to deliver a three-dimensional rendering of the object at a selected angle, which is based on the data indicative of the personal position of the end user. In more specific embodiments, the synthesizing is executed by a server configured to be coupled to a network. Video analytics can be used to determine the personal position of the end user. In other embodiments, the method includes determining an approximate time interval for the synthesizing of the image data and then delaying audio data based on the time interval.

System and method for providing three dimensional imaging in a network environment

A method is provided in one example and includes capturing panoramic image data through a first camera in a camera cluster, and capturing close-up image data through a second camera included as part of a spaced array of cameras. The presence of a user in a field of view of the second camera can be detected. The close-up image data and the panoramic image data can be combined to form a combined image. In more specific embodiments, the detecting includes evaluating a distance between the user and the second camera. The combined image can reflect a removal of a portion of panoramic image data associated with the user in a video conferencing environment.

System and method for providing depth adaptive video conferencing

In video coders, the optimal coding mode decision for each coding block can be achieved by exhaustively calculating the rate-distortion cost, which simultaneously considers the distortion performance and the coding bit consumption of all possible modes. The best mode is chosen from the one with the minimum Lagrange cost. To avoid the expensive computation of Lagrange costs, in this paper, we propose transform-domain bit-rate estimation and distortion measures, based on quantized and inverse quantized integer transform coefficients, for the inter-mode decision in H.264/AVC coders. With the proposed scheme, entropy coding, inverse transform, and pixel-reconstructions are not required in the process. With ignorable degradation in coding performance, simulations demonstrate that the proposed estimation method achieves about 40% reduced computation time of rate-distortion cost for the inter-mode decision and saves about 17% total encoding time while combining with fast motion estimation and fast mode decision algorithms.

Efficient rate-distortion estimation for H.264/AVC coders

A system and method for alerting participants in a videoconference that one or more participants are improperly framed by the videoconference camera is provided. An embodiment comprises a temporary self-view picture-in-picture image appearing when the number of faces detected by the videoconference camera changes. A face detection algorithm is used to determine when the number of faces being detected by the videoconference camera has changed. The self-view picture-in-picture image displays, for a duration of time, a representation of the image being captured by the videoconference camera, allowing participants who are not properly framed by the videoconference camera to adjust their position to that their faces are captured by the videoconference camera.

Systems and methods for providing camera configuration for points in a multi-point videoconference system are provided. First configuration information is determined for a first point of a multi-point videoconferencing system. Second configuration information is determined for a second point of the multi-point videoconferencing system. One or more first cameras at the first point or one or more second cameras at the second point of the multi-point videoconferencing system are reconfigured based on the first configuration information or the second configuration information.

Method and system for videoconference configuration

An adaptive mode decision algorithm is presented, with rate-distortion optimisation that reduces complexity of the H.264 encoder without loss of image quality and compression ratio. The proposed algorithm uses the property of an all-zero coefficients block that is produced by quantisation and coefficient thresholding to effectively skip unnecessary modes. Experimental results show that the speed of the adaptive mode decision algorithm is two times faster than the full-mode decision algorithm of the JM72 reference encoder, without any coding loss.
