Journal ArticleDOI

Enzymic activities and galactomannan mobilisation in germinating seeds of fenugreek (Trigonella fœnum-graecum L. Leguminosae) : Secretion of α-galactosidase and β-mannosidase by the aleurone layer.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the galactomannan of fenugreek is broken down by a series of hydrolases secreted by the aleurone layer of the endosperm, which include α-galactosidase, β-mannosidases and probably also endo-β-mannanase.
Journal ArticleDOI

On the structure of cell walls and cell wall mannans from ivory nuts and from dates

TL;DR: The submicroscopic structure of date and ivory-nut-endosperm cell walls has been studied with polarisation and electron microscopes and the degree of polymerisation of mannan A and B was determined osmometrically.
Journal ArticleDOI

The function of the aleurone layer during galactomannan mobilisation in germinating seeds of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.), crimson clover (Trifolium incarnatum L.) and lucerne (Medicago sativa L.): A correlative biochemical and ultrastructural study.

TL;DR: It is concluded that the cells of the aleurone layer are responsible for the synthesis and secretion into the storage cells ofthe enzymes necessary for galactomannan degradation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changes in the composition of cotton fibre cell walls during development.

TL;DR: Most conspicuous was the decrease in the absolute amounts of non-cellulosic glucose and of arabinose residues during the secondary wall formation, possibly indicating a turnover of at least some of the hemicelluosic wall material.
