Purpose – This paper seeks to demonstrate the importance of uses and gratifications theory to social media. By applying uses and gratifications theory, this paper will explore and discuss the uses and gratifications that consumer receive from using social media. G etting closer to customers is a top priority for CEOs, according to the IBM 2010 CEO Study.[1] Today’s businesses are vigorously building social media programs to do just this. But are customers as enthusiastic? Actually, most do not engage with companies via social media simply to feel connected. It turns out, customers are far more pragmatic. Social media and innovation: A systematic literature review and future research directions

Firms are developing online communities that facilitate online communication of their consumers for innovation purposes, such as new product development or virtual product design. This is forming co-innovation, innovation with end users. This study selects a case study of an online community to investigate the process of innovation on this community and what factors drive co-innovation. Based on social capital theory and a social media perspective, the research has a number of implications. The results of content analysis of this online innovation community show that the interconnectivity of users produces social capital, which in turn drives co-innovation. Integrating social capital theory and social media can develop a theoretical background in the area of co-innovation and suggest practical implications for the market. Drivers, process and types of co-innovation are discussed in this paper. Limitations and future research direction are suggested at the end of this research.

Purpose – Existing work on internet banking has provided substantial knowledge of the benefits and economic impacts of internet banking from the bank’s perspective. However, internet banking provides advantages for customers as well as the banking industry. The purpose of this paper is to investigate customer perceptions of internet banking in the UK with the goal of providing a comprehensive understanding of British internet banking. Design/methodology/approach – In order to provide the detailed understanding of customers’ perceptions of internet banking, a qualitative study was conducted. The primary method of data collection were 25 interviews. To provide triangulation and increase reliability, various documents and secondary data analyses about internet banking in the UK were also used to supplement the analysis.
