Animal models for periodontal regeneration and peri‐implant responses

TL;DR: This review focuses on the animal models available for the study of regeneration in periodontal research and implantology; the advantages and disadvantages of each animal model; the interpretation of data acquired; and future perspectives of animal research, with a discussion of possible nonanimal alternatives.
Journal ArticleDOI

Epithelial to Mesenchymal Transition in Gingival Overgrowth

TL;DR: It is found that phenytoin-induced human gingival overgrowth tissues, the most fibrotic drug-induced variety, contain diminished epithelial E-cadherin expression, whereas fibroblast-specific protein-1 (FSP-1) and alphavbeta6 integrin levels are up-regulated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Activation of RAGE induces elevated O2- generation by mononuclear phagocytes in diabetes

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that RAGE ligands can contribute significantly to the hyper‐responsive phenotype of diabetic monocytes, which might be reversible by blocking the RAGE or controlling the presence of RAGES ligands by controlling hyperglycemia.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impact of Resolvin E1 on Murine Neutrophil Phagocytosis in Type 2 Diabetes

TL;DR: In vivo dorsal air pouch studies revealed that RvE1 decreases neutrophil influx into the pouch and increases neutrophIL phagocytosis of P. gingivalis in the transgenic animals; cutaneous fat deposition was reduced, as was macrophage infiltration.
