Bioactive potential of Colombian feijoa in physiological ripening stage

In Mexico, more than 100 varieties of chili (Capsicum annuum L.) are planted, it is a highly profitable crop and represents an economic activity of national importance. Currently, it faces serious phytosanitary problems due to the presence of diseases such as the wilting of chili, caused by a complex of soil pathogens. To control these diseases, toxic and residual fungicides are used, which pollute the environment and induce genetic resistance in phytopathogens. Therefore, it is necessary to look for control alternatives to solve this problem, therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the antagonistic effect of Trichoderma spp., against the causal agents of wilting in in vitro confrontations by means of dual cultures. The study was carried out in 2016, at the Intercultural University of the State of Puebla, Huehuetla, Puebla, Mexico. Three Trichoderma isolates from avocado tree rhizospheres, T. viride, T. harzianum and T. asperellum and three isolates of the phytopathogens P. capsici, F. oxysporum and R. solani obtained from the roots of plant plants were evaluated chili with wilting symptoms. The isolates were morphologically characterized for identification. The three antagonistic fungi presented a high percentage of inhibition, T. asperellum showed 88.25%, T. viride 87.22% and T. harzianum with 87.8%. Under the conditions of the study, T. asperellum, T. viride and T. harzianum, were efficient antagonistic microorganisms against the studied phytopathogens. It is suggested to carry out biocontrol evaluations with these isolates in the greenhouse and in the open field.

The effect of four hydrocolloids on the physico-chemical, bioactive and rheological properties in sweetened mango leather sheets of the Yulima variety were analyzed. Parametric and non-parametric statistical tests were done to analyze the differences among samples (four of treatment against two of control). The findings show significant positive effects caused by the hydrocolloids made from Gum Arabic (AG), Maltodextrin (MTD) and Citric Slow Pectin (CSP) on leathers’ quality and appearance attributes. Only the Carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) reported adverse effects on the mango leather's quality; therefore, its use on an industrial scale is not recommended for this line of processed product.

El presente estudio tuvo como proposito evaluar el crecimiento radial in vitro de P. cinnamomi en diferentes condiciones de temperatura (17, 28 y 34°C), asi como, determinar las temperaturas optimas del crecimiento del patogeno para asegurar la infeccion de las raices. Finalmente, seleccionar porta-injertos de aguacate de la raza Mexicana con tolerancia-resistencia a P. cinnamomi en determinadas condiciones de temperaturas y bajo presion de inoculo. Esta seleccion se realizo inoculando grupos de plantas de la raza Mexicana denominadas Atlixco, Tepeyanco y Tepetl, y los porta-injertos comerciales Thomas y Duke-7 con 250 ml/planta de suspension micelial de P. cinnamomi a temperaturas de 17 y 28°C. La seleccion de porta-injertos tolerantes-resistentes con temperatura controlada y presion de inoculo, demostro una interaccion positiva. Atlixco y Tepeyanco mostraron una resistencia consistente, al presentar solo un 10% de plantas con sintomas de marchitez. Estos resultados prueban que Atlixco y Tepeyanco pueden ser considerados porta-injertos promisorios resistentes a P. cinnamomi, debido a que la mayoria de las plantas sobrevivieron, con mas de un 90% de plantas asintomaticas para ambas temperaturas. Los porta-injertos Thomas, Duke-7 y Tepetl presentaron una resistencia intermedia. The present study was aimed to evaluate the radial mycelia growth of this pathogen in vitro under controlled temperatures different (17, 28 and 34 °C), as well as determiner the optimal temperatures for growth of the pathogen. Finally, select avocado rootstocks of the Mexican race with tolerance-resistance to P. cinnamomi in under certain conditions of temperature and pressure of inoculums. This selection was done by inoculating groups of plants of the Mexican race Atlixco, Tepeyanco and Tepetl, and rootstocks Thomas and Duke-7 with mycelia suspension of 250 ml/plant of P. cinnamomi at temperatures of 17 to 28 °C. The selection of rootstocks tolerant-resistant with controlled temperature showed a positive interaction. Atlixco and Tepeyanco consistently, showed a high level of tolerance-resistance with only 10% of plants developed wilt symptoms. These results prove that Atlixco and Tepeyanco can be considered promising rootstocks resistant to P. cinnamomi, as most of the plants survived and showed over 90% of symptomless plants at both temperatures. The rootstock Thomas, Duke-7 and Tepetl presented intermediate resistance.

Exploring business competitiveness in high technology sectors: an empirical analysis of the mexican software industry

The growing development and social appropriation of ICTs nowadays represent a means that facilitates the participation of citizens in the design and management of public policies. The objective of this research was to assess the contribution generated by the use of a digital platform as a means to design and execute public policies aimed at strengthening the productive apparatus in the tourism and cultural industry of the Tolima region within the “Tolima Vive Digital”-TVD (Tolima Lives Digitally) project developed between 2013 and 2014 within the framework of the “Vive Digital” (Live Digitally) initiative by the National Government. Through an evaluative research model, structured surveys and in-depth interviews were applied to beneficiaries linked to the tourism and culture sector in the region, as well as to facilitators-experts in the operation of the platform. The results of the evaluation show the positive contribution of ICTs to the processes of citizen participation in the design of public policies by facilitating the participation and inclusion of citizens from remote regions, by enabling a more efficient systematization and integration of citizen demands and by generating a new communication channel between Government and citizens. In this way, the experience of the Tolima region represents a reference point for other government managers, and becomes a complementary contribution to the evaluation of the strategy for the digitalization of the public service in Colombia.
