Ankle brachial index combined with Framingham risk score to predict cardiovascular events and mortality: A meta-analysis
F. G. R. Fowkes,Gordon D Murray,Isabella Butcher,C.L. Heald,R.J. Lee,Lloyd E. Chambless,Aaron R. Folsom,Alan T. Hirsch,M. Dramaix,G DeBacker,J.C. Wautrecht,Marcel Kornitzer,A.B. Newman,Mary Cushman,Kim Sutton-Tyrrell,Amanda J Lee,Jackie F. Price,Ralph B. D'Agostino,Joanne M. Murabito,Paul Norman,K. Jamrozik,J D Curb,K. H. Masaki,B.L. Rodriquez,J.M. Dekker,Lex M. Bouter,R.J. Heine,Giel Nijpels,C.D.A. Stehouwer,Luigi Ferrucci,Henri E J H Stoffers,J. D. Hooi,J.A. Knottnerus,Mats Ögren,B. Hedblad,J. C. M. Witteman,Monique M.B. Breteler,M. G. Myriam Hunink,Albert Hofman,M H Criqui,Robert Langer,Arnost Fronek,William R. Hiatt,Richard F. Hamman,Helaine E. Resnick,J. M. Guralnik,Mary M. McDermott +46 more
TL;DR: Measurement of the ABI may improve the accuracy of cardiovascular risk prediction beyond the FRS, and is associated with approximately twice the 10-year total mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and major coronary event rate compared with the overall rate in each FRS category.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement and Interpretation of the Ankle-Brachial Index A Scientific Statement From the American Heart Association
Victor Aboyans,Michael H. Criqui,Pierre Abraham,Matthew A. Allison,Mark A. Creager,Curt Diehm,F. Gerry R. Fowkes,William R. Hiatt,Björn Jönsson,Philippe Lacroix,Benoît Marin,Mary M. McDermott,Lars Norgren,Reena L. Pande,Pierre-Marie Preux,Henri E J H Stoffers,Diane Treat-Jacobson +16 more
TL;DR: Measurement and interpretation of the ankle-brachial index : a scientific statement from the Ammerican Heart Association.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Prevalence of Asymptomatic and Unrecognized Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease
Henri E J H Stoffers,Paula E. L. M. Rinkens,Arnold D. M. Kester,Victor Kaiser,J. André Knottnerus +4 more
TL;DR: The data on asymptomatic and unknown PAOD cases show that GPs can still enhance their efforts towards (secondary) prevention of atherosclerosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incidence of and Risk Factors for Asymptomatic Peripheral Arterial Occlusive Disease: A Longitudinal Study
J. D. Hooi,Arnold D. M. Kester,Henri E J H Stoffers,Marjori M. Overdijk,Jan W van Ree,J. André Knottnerus +5 more
TL;DR: The incidence of asymptomatic PAOD was higher than the incidence of symptomaticPAOD, with women developing PAOD more often than men, and modification of atherosclerotic risk factors, such as smoking, hypertension, and diabetes, should be the main goals.
Journal ArticleDOI
Asymptomatic peripheral arterial occlusive disease predicted cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in a 7-year follow-up study
J.D Hooi,Arnold D. M. Kester,Henri E J H Stoffers,Paula E. L. M. Rinkens,J. A. Knottnerus,J.W. van Ree +5 more
TL;DR: Asymptomatic PAOD is a significant predictor of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality among the elderly population and in high-risk subjects, measurement of the ABPI provides valuable information on future cardiovascular events.
