TL;DR: Measurement of the ABI may improve the accuracy of cardiovascular risk prediction beyond the FRS, and is associated with approximately twice the 10-year total mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and major coronary event rate compared with the overall rate in each FRS category.

F. de Vegt,J.M. Dekker,Henricus G. Ruhé,Coen D.A. Stehouwer,Giel Nijpels,Lex M. Bouter,Robert J. Heine +6 more
TL;DR: High glycaemic variables, especially 2-h post-load glucose concentrations and to a lesser extent HbA1 c values, indicate a risk of all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in a general population without known diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI

TL;DR: Most European populations have a moderate to low prevalence of diabetes and IGR, which will be underestimated in Europe, particularly in women and in elderly men, if diagnoses are based on fasting glucose determination alone.
