Molecular mechanism of inhibition of firefly luminescence by local anesthetics

TL;DR: A molecular theory of anesthesia is outlined which postulates that release of electrostricted water molecules from the hydrophilic parts of the enzyme due to the protein conformational changes induced by anesthetics is the cause of the decreased luminescence.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanical Properties of Textiles: VI. A Study of Creep of Fibers

TL;DR: In this paper, the relationship between time and elongation was shown to be a linear one, in the range of small elongation, such as the ones commonly encountered in textile mechanics.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Structure and Dynamics of Liquids

TL;DR: In this article, it was shown that a liquid is best thought of as a solid to which a large number of empty equilibrium positions are added, and that the expansion on melting, as well as the expansion with a rise in temperature, arises almost entirely from this introduction of new equilibrium positions, and only to a minor extent from lattice expansion.
