TL;DR: In this paper, the aperture area of an iris detected by means of an aperture detecting circuit has at least a prescribed value, or preset a threshold in accordance with the aperture areas of the iris when the aperture region has a value smaller than the prescribed value.
Abstract: An exposure evaluating value generating circuit (8) in an automatic focusing device generates exposure evaluating values for automatic exposure for each of areas in a screen based on video signals from a CCD (3), and a focus evaluating value generating circuit (9) generates focus evaluating values for automatic focusing and employs a prescribed value as a threshold when the aperture area of an iris detected by means of an aperture detecting circuit (11) has at least a prescribed value, or presets a threshold in accordance with the aperture area of the iris when the aperture area has a value smaller than the prescribed value. When a luminance signal is smaller than its reference value, the evaluating value for each of areas is integrated and, when the luminance signal is larger than the reference value, the high-frequency components in the areas where the luminance level is higher than the threshold are excluded from the integration.
