Terahertz Spectroscopy and Imaging for Defense and Security Applications
TL;DR: Terahertz (THz) radiation, which occupies a relatively unexplored portion of the electromagnetic spectrum between the mid-infrared and microwave bands, offers innovative sensing and imaging technologies that can provide information unavailable through conventional methods such as microwave and X-ray as discussed by the authors.
Terahertz Spectroscopy and Imaging for Defense and Security Applications Laboratory experiments indicate that, with more powerful sources and more sensitive detectors, terahertz techniques have great potential for detection and identification of concealed explosives.
TL;DR: THz technologies are promising for the standoff detection and identification of explosive targets and the opportunity for transformational advances in defense and security is offered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Compact continuous-wave subterahertz system for inspection applications
Nicholas Karpowicz,Hua Zhong,Cunlin Zhang,Kuang I. Lin,Jenn Shyong Hwang,Jingzhou Xu,Xi-Cheng Zhang,Xi-Cheng Zhang +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, a combination of a Gunn diode emitter, a Schottky diode detector, and a polyethylene Fresnel lens was used for line-scan images at 0.2m∕s with a data acquisition rate of 512 points∕ s.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison between pulsed terahertz time-domain imaging and continuous wave terahertz imaging
TL;DR: In this paper, an evaluation of pulsed terahertz (THz) and continuous wave (CW) measurements for non-destructive testing applications was carried out for the detection of defects in space shuttle foam insulation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Terahertz emission profile from laser-induced air plasma
TL;DR: In this article, the emission profile of terahertz waves generated by four-wave mixing in the presence of laser-induced plasma was characterized and shown to be a promising source for spectroscopy and imaging.
