Journal ArticleDOI

Ecological consequences of biological invasions: three invertebrate case studies in the north-eastern Baltic Sea

TL;DR: The studied abiotic environmental variables did not explain the interannual variability in the seasonal cycles of M. neglecta and C. pengoi indicating that the species are at their initial phase of invasion.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seasonal variability in the grazing potential of the invasive amphipod Gammarus tigrinus and the native amphipod Gammarus salinus (Amphipoda: Crustacea) in the northern Baltic Sea

TL;DR: It is likely that both native and alien gammarid amphipods do not exert significant pressure on the macroalgal communities in the northern Baltic Sea.
Journal ArticleDOI

Separate and interactive effects of eutrophication and climate variables on the ecosystem elements of the Gulf of Riga

TL;DR: In this article, the authors quantified the separate and combined impacts of nutrient loading, temperature, salinity, and wind conditions on zooplankton, zoobenthos and fish inhabiting a brackish water ecosystem in the Gulf of Riga.
Journal ArticleDOI

Seasonal changes in situ grazing of the mesoherbivores Idotea baltica and Gammarus oceanicus on the brown algae Fucus vesiculosus and Pylaiella littoralis in the central Gulf of Finland, Baltic Sea

TL;DR: The results indicated that the grazers are not likely to control the early outbreak of filamentous algae in the northern Baltic Sea by avoiding young and photosynthetically active algae and the photosynthetic activity of algae explained the best the variation in grazing rate.
