Journal ArticleDOI

Pathways of DNA double-strand break repair during the mammalian cell cycle.

TL;DR: It is shown here that NHEJ-defective hamster cells (CHO mutant V3 cells) have strongly reduced repair in all cell cycle phases after 1 Gy of irradiation, and HR is particularly important in late S/G2, where both pathways contribute to repair and radioresistance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enhanced fidelity for rejoining radiation‐induced DNA double‐strand breaks in the G2 phase of Chinese hamster ovary cells

TL;DR: Investigation of the rejoining of correct and incorrect DSB ends in synchronized populations of Chinese hamster ovary cells irradiated with 80 Gy X-rays shows evidence that restriction fragment reconstitution is more efficient in G2 than in G1, suggesting that DSB rejoining in G 2 proceeds with higher fidelity.
Journal ArticleDOI

The protein kinase Ire1 has a Hac1-independent essential role in iron uptake and virulence of Candida albicans

TL;DR: The specific requirement of Ire1 for the functionality of the high-affinity iron permease Ftr1, a well-established virulence factor, even in the absence of endoplasmic reticulum stress uncovers a novel Hac1-independent essential role ofIre1 in iron acquisition and virulence of C. albicans.
