Journal ArticleDOI
Thromboembolism risk of COVID-19 is high and associated with a higher risk of mortality: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
Mahmoud B. Malas,Isaac Naazie,Nadin Elsayed,Asma Mathlouthi,Rebecca A. Marmor,Bryan M. Clary +5 more
TL;DR: Robust evidence from ongoing clinical trials is needed to determine the impact of thromboprophylaxis on TE and mortality risk of COVID-19.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Transcarotid Artery Revascularization with Dynamic Flow Reversal Versus Transfemoral Carotid Artery Stenting and Carotid Endarterectomy.
Isaac Naazie,Christina Cui,Ikponmwosa Osaghae,Mohammad Hassan Murad,Marc L. Schermerhorn,Mahmoud B. Malas +5 more
TL;DR: Among patients undergoing TCAR with dynamic flow reversal for carotid stenosis the 30-day risk of stroke or death was low and the perioperative stroke/death rate of TCAR was similar to that of CEA while cranial nerve injury risk was lower.
Journal ArticleDOI
Propensity score-matched analysis of 1-year outcomes of transcarotid revascularization with dynamic flow reversal, carotid endarterectomy, and transfemoral carotid artery stenting
Mahmoud B. Malas,Manfred Heckmann,Nadin Elsayed,Isaac Naazie,Hanaa Dakour-Aridi,Kevin S. Yei,Marc L. Schermerhorn +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors focused on the 1-year outcomes of ipsilateral stroke or death after transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR), CEA, and TFCAS.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primary mechanism of stroke reduction in transcarotid artery revascularization is dynamic flow reversal.
Isaac Naazie,Gregory A. Magee,Asma Mathlouthi,Nadin Elsayed,Hanaa Dakour-Aridi,Mahmoud B. Malas +5 more
TL;DR: Compared with TCAS_DEP, TCAR was associated with a lower risk of perioperative stroke or death and stroke, which implies dynamic flow reversal may be a better neuroprotection system than distal embolic filter in reducing the peri operative risk of stroke.
Journal ArticleDOI
Incidence and risk factors of sepsis in hemodialysis patients in the United States.
Satinderjit Locham,Isaac Naazie,Joseph K. Canner,Jeffrey J. Siracuse,Omar Al-Nouri,Mahmoud B. Malas,Mahmoud B. Malas +6 more
TL;DR: Sepsis risk in HD patients is clearly related to access type and is associated with dramatic increase in mortality and Initiating HD access with AVF to meet the National Kidney Foundation Kidney Disease Outcomes Quality recommendations should be implemented to reduce the incidence of sepsis and improve survival in ESRD patients.
