Journal ArticleDOI
Hypoglycemic effect of Carica papaya leaves in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Isela Esther Juárez-Rojop,Juan C. Díaz-Zagoya,Jorge L. Ble-Castillo,Pedro H. Miranda-Osorio,Andrés E. Castell-Rodríguez,Carlos Alfonso Tovilla-Zárate,Arturo Rodríguez-Hernández,Hidemi Aguilar-Mariscal,Teresa Ramón-Frías,Deysi Y. Bermúdez-Ocaña +9 more
TL;DR: This study showed that the aqueous extract of C. papaya exerted a hypoglycemic and antioxidant effect; it also improved the lipid profile in diabetic rats and positively affected integrity and function of both liver and pancreas.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence of anxiety and depression among outpatients with type 2 diabetes in the Mexican population.
Carlos Alfonso Tovilla-Zárate,Isela Esther Juárez-Rojop,Yesenia Peralta Jimenez,María Antonia Jiménez,Silvia Vázquez,Deysi Y. Bermúdez-Ocaña,Teresa Ramón-Frías,Alma Delia Genis Mendoza,Sherezada Pool García,Lilia López Narváez +9 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that a large proportion of diabetic patients present depression and/or anxiety, and a significant association between complications in diabetes with depression and anxiety is identified.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Role of a Catechol-O-Methyltransferase (COMT) Val158Met Genetic Polymorphism in Schizophrenia: A Systematic Review and Updated Meta-analysis on 32,816 Subjects
Thelma Beatriz González-Castro,Yazmín Hernández-Díaz,Isela Esther Juárez-Rojop,María Lilia López-Narváez,Carlos Alfonso Tovilla-Zárate,Ana Fresán +5 more
TL;DR: The analyses indicate that there is an association between COMT Val108/158Met and schizophrenia in the general population and in Caucasian populations, this risk could be increased.
Journal ArticleDOI
Phytochemical screening and hypoglycemic activity of Carica papaya leaf in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats
Isela Esther Juárez-Rojop,Carlos Alfonso Tovilla-Zárate,Dora E. Aguilar-Domínguez,Luis Fernando Roa de la Fuente,Carlos E. Lobato-García,Jorge L. Ble-Castillo,Leonor Lopez-Meraz,Juan C. Díaz-Zagoya,Deysi Y. Bermúdez-Ocaña +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the preliminary phytochemical and physicochemical analysis of Carica papaya L., Caricaceae, leaf, and further evaluation of its hypoglycemic effect on diabetic rats was conducted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Differential Effects of High-Carbohydrate and High-Fat Diet Composition on Metabolic Control and Insulin Resistance in Normal Rats
Jorge L. Ble-Castillo,María A. Aparicio-Trápala,Isela Esther Juárez-Rojop,Jorge E. Torres-López,José D. Méndez,Hidemi Aguilar-Mariscal,Viridiana Olvera-Hernández,Leydi C. Palma-Cordova,Juan C. Díaz-Zagoya +8 more
TL;DR: HUFD exhibited the most beneficial effects on glycemic control meanwhile HRSD induced the highest reduction on lipid content and did not modify insulin sensitivity, which in both groups were more important factors than caloric intake for metabolic disturbance and insulin resistance.
