The Role of a Catechol-O-Methyltransferase (COMT) Val158Met Genetic Polymorphism in Schizophrenia: A Systematic Review and Updated Meta-analysis on 32,816 Subjects

TL;DR: The analyses indicate that there is an association between COMT Val108/158Met and schizophrenia in the general population and in Caucasian populations, this risk could be increased.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of paraoxonase 1 gene polymorphisms on heart diseases: Systematic review and meta-analysis of 64 case-control studies.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the genetic risk for heart diseases is associated with the PON1 gene polymorphisms, L55M polymorphism is a risk factor and Q192R polymorphisms is protective in certain populations.
Journal ArticleDOI

The role of C957T, TaqI and Ser311Cys polymorphisms of the DRD2 gene in schizophrenia: systematic review and meta-analysis

TL;DR: The meta-analysis suggests an association of the DRD2 gene and the risk for schizophrenia, given that TaqI and C 957T polymorphisms presented a protective effect against schizophrenia, and in the sub-analyses the C957T variant increased the risk of this disorder in the Chinese population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Exploring the association between BDNF Val66Met polymorphism and suicidal behavior: Meta-analysis and systematic review.

TL;DR: There is no evidence of association between the polymorphism Val66Met of BDNF (rs6265) and suicide behavior in the overall population, however, ethnic differences can be observed and the BDNF Val66 met might increase the risk for suicidebehavior in Asian and Caucasian populations.
