Journal ArticleDOI
The first-night effect may last more than one night.
O. Le Bon,Luc Staner,Guy Hoffmann,Michèle Dramaix,I. San Sebastian,J.R. Murphy,Monique Kentos,Isidore Pelc,Paul Linkowski +8 more
TL;DR: The dynamics of adaptation of rapid eye movement sleep appeared to be a process extending up to the fourth night, and it appears that the same mechanisms may be responsible for the FNE.
Journal ArticleDOI
Personality profile and drug of choice; a multivariate analysis using Cloninger's TCI on heroin addicts, alcoholics, and a random population group
O. Le Bon,P. Basiaux,Emmanuel Streel,Juan Martin Tecco,Catherine Hanak,Michel Hansenne,Marc Ansseau,Isidore Pelc,Paul Verbanck,Sylviane Dupont +9 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared three groups: 42 patients with heroin dependence, 37 patients with alcohol dependence and 83 subjects from a random population sample (mean age: 38.8; SD: 6.9; 20 females).
Journal ArticleDOI
Alcoholics' deficits in the decoding of emotional facial expression.
Pierre Philippot,Charles Kornreich,Sylvie Blairy,Iseult Baert,A Den Dulk,O. Le Bon,Emmanuel Streel,Ursula Hess,Isidore Pelc,Paul Verbanck +9 more
TL;DR: Analysis of emotional facial expression decoding in alcoholics indicates that alcoholics overestimate the intensity of emotional expressions and make more errors in their decoding with a special bias for anger and contempt.
Journal ArticleDOI
Supervisory attentional system in nonamnesic alcoholic men.
Xavier Noël,Martial Van der Linden,Nicolas Schmidt,Rita Sferrazza,Catherine Hanak,Olivier Le Bon,Jacques De Mol,Charles Kornreich,Isidore Pelc,Paul Verbanck +9 more
TL;DR: Data support the idea that the cognitive deficits in recently detoxified sober alcoholic subjects are due, at least partly, to frontal lobe dysfunctioning, which is still present after a protracted period of alcohol abstinence.
Journal ArticleDOI
Efficacy and safety of acamprosate in the treatment of detoxified alcohol-dependent patients. A 90-day placebo-controlled dose-finding study.
TL;DR: It is confirmed that acamprosate could be an interesting adjuvant for maintaining abstinence in detoxified alcoholics and appeared to be significantly superior to placebo.
