Does gastric acid release plasma somatostatin in man
Michael R. Lucey,J. A. H. Wass,Peter D. Fairclough,M. O'hare,P. Kwasowski,Erica Penman,Joan P. W. Webb,L. H. Rees +7 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that intragastric acid infusions do not release circulating somatostatin in man; and that intraduodenal acidification albeit at grossly supraphysiological doses is a moderate stimulus of plasma som atostatin release.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gastrointestinal bleeding in patients on bromocriptine.
J. A. H. Wass,Michael O. Thorner,G. M. Besser,D. V. Morris,A.Stuart Mason,A. Liuzzi,P.G. Chiodini +6 more
Journal ArticleDOI
Adrenocorticotrophin‐independent unilateral macronodular adrenal hyperplasia occurring with myelolipoma: an unusual cause of Cushing's syndrome
TL;DR: A case of Cushing's syndrome due to ACTH‐independent unilateral macronodular adrenal hyperplasia that occurred with a myelolipoma is reported and it is proposed that these two entitles may be linked to the production of an adrenal growth factor.
Journal ArticleDOI
Csf and plasma somatostatin levels in acromegaly
TL;DR: It is probable that altered somatostatin secretion is neither the cause nor the result of acromegaly; however it is possible that local changes in som atostatin concentration which are not reflected in peripheral plasma or CSF levels may occur near the site of its production.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrasound-guided percutaneous fine needle puncture of the gallbladder for studies of bile composition
TL;DR: PFNP-GB is an effective way of sampling fresh gallbladder bile, although there is a 16% risk of inducing pain and/or ultrasonographic changes in the gallbladders.
