Cusp/cleft auroral activity in relation to solar wind dynamic pressure, interplanetary magnetic field Bz and By
Per Even Sandholt,Charlie J. Farrugia,L. F. Burlaga,J. A. Holtet,Joran Moen,Bjørn Lybekk,B. Jacobsen,D. Opsvik,Alv Egeland,R. P. Lepping,A. J. Lazarus,T. Hansen,Asgeir Brekke,E. Friis-Christensen +13 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the observed latitudinal movements of the cusp/cleft aurora in response to IMF B(sub z) changes may be explained as an effect of a variable magnetic field intensity in the outer dayside magnetosphere associated with the changing intensity of region 1 field-aligned currents and associated closure currents.
Journal ArticleDOI
Large- and small-scale dynamics of the polar cusp
Per Even Sandholt,Alv Egeland,J. A. Holtet,Bjørn Lybekk,K. R. Svenes,S. Asheim,Charles Deehr +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the behavior of polar cusp auroras and the local magnetic field related to changes in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) and irregularities in the solar wind plasma.
Journal ArticleDOI
Modulated Langmuir waves: Observations from Freja and SCIFER
TL;DR: In this article, a model of the modulation based on scattering via electrostatic whistler/lower hybrid waves is proposed as a viable explanation of the broad modulation bandwidth of the Langmuir wave modulations.
Journal ArticleDOI
The SCIFER Experiment
Paul M. Kintner,John W. Bonnell,Roger L. Arnoldy,K. A. Lynch,Craig Pollock,Thomas E. Moore,J. A. Holtet,Charles Deehr,Hans C. Stenbaek-Nielsen,Roger W. Smith,J. V. Olson,Joran Moen +11 more
TL;DR: The Sounding of the Cleft Ion Fountain Energization Region (SCIFER) experiment was conducted to investigate the ionospheric origin of the cleft ion fountain (CIF) as mentioned in this paper.
