Journal ArticleDOI

High stocking density produces crowding stress altering some physiological and biochemical parameters in gilthead seabream, Sparus aurata, juveniles

TL;DR: The results of this study showed that high stocking density produced a chronic stress situation and there was both haemoconcentration and a decrease in alternative complement pathway, an important component of the immune system of fish.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of vitamin E and C dietary supplementation on some immune parameters of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) juveniles subjected to crowding stress

TL;DR: In those fish fed the vitamin E supplemented diet, levels were similar to fish held at low stocking density, suggesting the role of this vitamin in this defense mechanism.
Journal ArticleDOI

Low vitamin E in diet reduces stress resistance of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) juveniles.

TL;DR: Results suggest that fish fed the vitamin E-deficient diet had lower stress resistance, and alterations in haematological parameters, such as an additional haemoconcentration in response to overcrowding when compared with control fish.
Journal ArticleDOI

Growth, feed utilization and body lipid content of gilthead seabream (Sparus aurata) fed increasing lipid levels and fish meals of different quality

TL;DR: The present study shows the effects of feeding gilthead seabream with nine diets containing three different lipid levels (15, 22 and 28% on a dry weight basis), combined with two types of fish meal of different quality, which promoted better growth than those prepared with the low quality one.
