Journal ArticleDOI
HAWK-I: the high-acuity wide-field K-band imager for the ESO Very Large Telescope
Markus Kissler-Patig,Jeff Pirard,Mark Casali,A. F. M. Moorwood,Nancy Ageorges,C. Alves de Oliveira,P. Baksai,Luigi R. Bedin,Eduardo Bendek,Peter Biereichel,B. Delabre,Reinhold J. Dorn,R. Esteves,G. Finger,D. Gojak,Gotthard Huster,Yves Jung,M. Kiekebush,Barbara Klein,Franz Koch,J. L. Lizon,Leander Mehrgan,Monika G. Petr-Gotzens,J. Pritchard,Fernando Selman,J. Stegmeier +25 more
TL;DR: The High-Acuity Wide-field K-band Imager for ESO's Very Large Telescope (AWK-I) as mentioned in this paper was designed, developed, and performed for the ESO VLSTM.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
SAPHIRA detector for infrared wavefront sensing
Gert Finger,Ian Baker,Domingo Alvarez,Derek Ives,Leander Mehrgan,Manfred Meyer,J. Stegmeier,Harald Weller +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors developed a near infrared electron avalanche photodiode array (eAPD) for wavefront sensing and fringe tracking. But the array required deep cooling to 40K to achieve acceptable cosmetic performance at high APD gain.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Interpixel capacitance in large format CMOS hybrid arrays
TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of the coupling capacitance between neighboring pixels on the conversion gain of large format arrays has been analyzed and compared quantitatively, and it has been shown that the noise squared versus signal (NoSV) method can only be applied for negligible interpixel capacitance.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Sub-electron read noise and millisecond full-frame readout with the near infrared eAPD array SAPHIRA
Gert Finger,Ian M. Baker,Domingo Alvarez,Christophe Dupuy,Derek Ives,Manfred Meyer,Leander Mehrgan,J. Stegmeier,Harald Weller +8 more
TL;DR: SAPHIRA arrays have been used for wavefront sensing and fringe tracking as mentioned in this paper and have achieved state-of-the-art performance in the near infrared near infrared HgCdTe electron avalanche photodiode arrays.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Development of high-speed, low-noise NIR HgCdTe avalanche photodiode arrays for adaptive optics and interferometry
Gert Finger,Ian Baker,Reinhold J. Dorn,Siegfried Eschbaumer,Derek Ives,Leander Mehrgan,Manfred Meyer,J. Stegmeier +7 more
TL;DR: The most promising way to overcome the CMOS noise barrier of infrared AO sensors is the amplification of the photoelectron impedance signal directly at the point of absorption inside the infrared pixel by means of the avalanche gain this paper.
