Electronic transport systems function in different, often extreme, operational conditions. Many years of observations of their use process in a transport environment confirm the dependence of their correct operation on the reliability of the components and effective management of their operation process [6, 7, 8]. The analysis of operational phenomena should, therefore, take into account not only the reliability approach but also the effectiveness of operational management. For this purpose, the authors imitated the phenomena undergoing in reality (including electromagnetic interference) in a research model of an electronic transport system. Selected issues regarding the reliability-operational assessment of electronic transport systems with regard to electromagnetic interference

There are several known cases of positioning error, leading to serious consequences, sometimes also deadly. Therefore, obtaining accurate position data by means of GPS receivers is paramount. With this perspective, the aim of this study was to test the within-field accuracy of different types of GPS receivers, and to determine their reliability. A proprietary software was used to determine the positioning accuracy of nine different types of satellite receivers. In addition, their reliability was investigated, by including tests aimed at measuring their positioning accuracy in field conditions. Thus, it was possible to determine the probability that these GPS receivers can be in some states (reliability). The developed software solution could be used for further research on a wider group of the same types of satellite receivers. The results of this study could lead to draft a procedure for evaluating and selecting GPS receivers, based on their quality, prior to use. This could have a paramount importance for uses in special purpose vehicles or transport telematics systems.

Analysis of Accuracy and Reliability of Different Types of GPS Receivers

Transport fire alarm systems function in different, often extreme, operational condition. Type A, B fire alarm circuits, detection loops, alarm control units are located inside buildings (e.g. railway stations, signal boxes, transformer stations, switchgear), as well as outside, within an open access environment (e.g. railway stations, walkways, storage sheds, etc.) [10,11,12]. Long-term studies of the FAS operation process support the thesis that the proper functioning of these safety platforms is a reliability function of the components – sensors, modules, control units, etc. The maintenance and servicing process, spare parts availability and conducting periodic inspections also determine an appropriate reliability level [4, 6, 16, 17, 19]. The analysis of the operational phenomena, occurring within a FAS should take into account two important issues: the reliability approach already at the stage of developing the design fire scenario, as well as the efficient operational management of these complex technical objects – i.e., for example, service availability, conducting preventive inspections and the parameters of their environments [7, 12, 16]. Selected issues of the reliability and operational assessment of a fire alarm system

In this article, a description is presented of simulation investigations concerning the quality of regeneration effects of a technical object in an intelligent system with an artificial neural network. All repairable technical objects used are subject to a cyclic (random) process of damages and repairs in the time of their operation. A reduction of the parameters connected with the use of objects is the fundamental feature of this process. This results in the need of a regeneration (technical maintenance) of this object. Regeneration of an object in an intelligent system with an artificial neural network constitutes an effective approach to this problem. The problem of qualitative assessments of a maintenance process organized in this manner is the focus of this article. For this purpose, a program of simulation investigations is presented. The research program consists of a description of the models of the operation processes of technical objects, determination of the input data to the investigations that are the quantities of the operation time of a technical object being the summary duration time of the regeneration (repairs) and the use of objects and the determination of the indexes of a qualitative assessment of the regeneration of an object in the operation process. The results of the study were justified with an example of simulation investigations concerning the effects of the operation process with the regeneration of a technical object in an intelligent system with an artificial neural network.

Safety in the railway industry

This study presents notions related to the reliability–exploitation analysis of electronic transport systems, which are used in the railway environment. Intentional or unintentional (stationary or mobile) electromagnetic interference existing in a vast railway area may be the cause of disturbance in its operation. Thus, it is important to ensure correct operation of electronic transport systems in an electromagnetic environment existing in a railway area. The reliability–exploitation analysis of electronic transport systems was conducted with the consideration of electromagnetic interference. This enabled the specification of the values of probability of the system staying in specific states.

Issue of reliability–exploitation evaluation of electronic transport systems used in the railway environment with consideration of electromagnetic interference

This article presents the issues related to the functioning and reliability and operational analysis of light-emitting diode (LED) type lighting modules, which are used in the railway technology. These devices operate in different electromagnetic environment conditions in the vast railway area. In the railway area, there are intentional and unintentional electromagnetic (stationary and mobile) interference which affect the operation process of the LED type lighting modules. In the article, the electromagnetic compatibility tests of the lighting module with a converter were carried out with the use of the electromagnetic interference (EMI) receiver of the ESCI3 type and the NNB-51 artificial network. As a result of the carried-out electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests, the exceeding of permissible levels of the value of conducted interference emissions was found. The electromagnetic interference of this frequency range has an impact on the operation process of the lighting module with a converter, therefore, by using the appropriate relationships, the values of the probabilities of the system staying in the distinguished operation states were calculated (e.g., in two states of partial suitability distinguished in the LED lighting module due to parallel coupling through reference impedance Z and capacity C). The considerations presented in the article related to the LED type lighting module with regard to electromagnetic interference allow for numerical assessment of different types of (technical and organisational) solutions that can be implemented in order to minimise the electromagnetic interference impact on the system functioning.

Reliability-Operational Analysis of the LED Lighting Module Including Electromagnetic Interference

Transport systems telematics are used in a variety of conditions surrounding it electromagnetic environment. Occurring over a wide transport area electromagnetic interferences, intentional or unintentional (stationary or mobile), can cause disruption of this system. The article presents the issues related to the modelling of the process of maintenance of transport telematics systems. It is taken into account not only the type of reliability structure, but also the effect of electromagnetic interferences on the analysed system. Through mathematical analysis, the obtained equations allow to calculate the probability of a complete system suitability R0(t) and the probability of failure Q0(t) for the selected maintenance situations. It is also taken into account the impact of the electromagnetic interferences, both additive and multiplicative, on the analysed system.
