Behavioral Mediators of Treatment Effects in the Weight Loss Maintenance Trial
Janelle W. Coughlin,Christina M. Gullion,Phillip J. Brantley,Victor J. Stevens,Alan Bauck,Catherine M. Champagne,Arlene Dalcin,Kristine L. Funk,Jack F. Hollis,Gerald J. Jerome,Lillian F. Lien,Catherine M. Loria,Valerie H. Myers,Lawrence J. Appel +13 more
TL;DR: Increased intake of fruits and vegetables, more frequent self-weighing, and decreased dessert consumption were mediators of the difference between personal contact vs. interactive technology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of tailored videos in primary care smoking cessation interventions
Elizabeth G. Eakin,Edward Lichtenstein,Herbert H. Severson,Victor J. Stevens,Thomas M. Vogt,Jack F. Hollis +5 more
TL;DR: This paper summarizes the collective experience in developing and using videos to facilitate smoking cessation counseling in a variety of medical settings and provides a discussion of implementation issues, a description of the video development process and information on patient exposure to the videos.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development and implementation cost analysis of telephone- and Internet-based interventions for the maintenance of weight loss
Richard T. Meenan,Victor J. Stevens,Kristine L. Funk,Alan Bauck,Gerald J. Jerome,Lillian F. Lien,Lawrence J. Appel,Jack F. Hollis,Phillip L. Brantley,Laura P. Svetkey +9 more
TL;DR: Costs of implementing and operating an Internet-based intervention for weight loss maintenance were substantially less than analogous costs of an intervention using standard phone and in-person contacts and are of a magnitude that would be attractive to many health systems, subject to demonstration of cost-effectiveness.
Journal ArticleDOI
Weight loss history as a predictor of weight loss: results from Phase I of the weight loss maintenance trial
Valerie H. Myers,Megan A. McVay,Catherine M. Champagne,Jack F. Hollis,Janelle W. Coughlin,Kristine L. Funk,Christina M. Gullion,Gerald J. Jerome,Catherine M. Loria,Carmen D. Samuel-Hodge,Victor J. Stevens,Laura P. Svetkey,Phillip J. Brantley +12 more
TL;DR: Examination of the association between weight loss history and weight loss outcomes in a diverse sample of high-risk individuals found that greater weight loss was predicted by fewer previous weight loss attempts with assistance and greater maximum weight loss in previous attempts.
Journal ArticleDOI
Type A behavior, attentional style, and symptom reporting among adult men and women.
TL;DR: Type As described themselves as having a broader attentional focus and reported more naturally occurring physical and psychological symptoms than did Type Bs.
