Year 2007 position statement: Principles and guidelines for early hearing detection and intervention programs
Jackie Busa,Judy Harrison,Jodie Chappell,Christine Yoshinaga-Itano,Alison Grimes,Patrick E. Brookhouser,Stephen Epstein,Albert Mehl,B. R. Vohr,Judith S. Gravel,Jackson Roush,Judith Widen,Beth S. Benedict,Bobbie Scoggins,Michelle King,Linda Pippins,David H. Savage,Jill Ackermann,Amy Gibson,Thomas F. Tonniges,Pamela Mason +20 more
TL;DR: The Joint Committee on Infant Hearing (JCIH) endorses early detection of and intervention for infants with hearing loss and EHDI systems should guarantee seamless transitions for infants and their families through this process.
Journal ArticleDOI
Age of suspicion, identification, and intervention for infants and young children with hearing loss: a national study.
Melody Harrison,Jackson Roush +1 more
TL;DR: Results revealed substantial delays between parental suspicion, audiologic‐medical diagnosis, fitting of acoustic amplification, and initiation of early intervention services; however, the pattern of delay was different for children with known risk factors than it was for those withoutknown risk factors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Trends in Age of Identification and Intervention in Infants with Hearing Loss
TL;DR: Findings indicate that when hearing is screened at birth, infants with more severe degrees of hearing loss and an unknown cause tend to be identified and receive intervention within the 2000 timelines proposed by the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing.
Journal ArticleDOI
Otitis media, hearing sensitivity, and maternal responsiveness in relation to language during infancy
Joanne E. Roberts,Margaret Burchinal,Lynn P. Medley,Susan A. Zeisel,Martha Mundy,Jackson Roush,Stephen R. Hooper,Donna M. Bryant,Frederick W. Henderson +8 more
TL;DR: Hearing loss had an indirect association with receptive and expressive language, cognitive development, and overall communication as mediated by child-rearing factors, and this association was linked to lower performance on the infant assessments.
Journal ArticleDOI
Otitis media, the caregiving environment, and language and cognitive outcomes at 2 years
Joanne E. Roberts,Margaret Burchinal,Susan A. Zeisel,Eloise C. Neebe,Stephen R. Hooper,Jackson Roush,Donna M. Bryant,Martha Mundy,Frederick W. Henderson +8 more
TL;DR: Both OME and hearing loss were more strongly related to the quality of home and child-care environments than to children's language and cognitive development, which led to lower performance in expressive language and vocabulary acquisition at 2 years.
