TL;DR: Investigation of the effect of nitroglycerin on splanchnic and systemic hemodynamics in cirrhotic patients and portal hypertensive dogs and in dogs provides evidence that the addition of nitreglycerin to an i.v. infusion of vasopressin reversed the detrimental effects of vasipressin while preserving the beneficial effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Measurement of azygos venous blood flow by a continuous thermal dilution technique: an index of blood flow through gastroesophageal collaterals in cirrhosis.
Jaime Bosch,Roberto J. Groszmann +1 more
TL;DR: The azygos venous blood flow measurement is a rapid, simple and sensitive method to evaluate blood flow changes in the vessels involved in gastroesophageal bleeding due to portal hypertension.
ORIGINAL ARTICLES—LIVER, PANCREAS, AND BILIARY TRACT Incidence, Prevalence, and Clinical Significance of Abnormal Hematologic Indices in Compensated Cirrhosis
Amir A. Qamar,Norman D. Grace,Roberto J. Groszmann,Jaime Bosch,Andrew K. Burroughs,Cristina Ripoll,Rie Maurer,Ramon Planas,Angels Escorsell,David Patch,Daniel S. Matloff,Robert W. Makuch,Gabriel Rendon +12 more
TL;DR: Thrombocytopenia is the most common and first abnormal HI to occur in patients with cirrhosis, followed by leukopenia and anemia, which predicted increased morbidity and mortality.
BookDOI
Textbook of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology: Hawkey/Textbook of Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology
Clinical-liver, pancreas, and biliary tract
Cristina Ripoll,Roberto J. Groszmann,Norman D. Grace,Andrew K. Burroughs,Ramon Planas,Angels Escorsell,Robert W. Makuch,David Patch,Daniel S. Matloff,Jaime Bosch +9 more
TL;DR: Diagnostic capacity of HVPG was greater than for MELD or Child‐Pugh score, and albumin independently predict clinical decompensation in patients with compensated cirrhosis.
