Journal ArticleDOI
The climate hazards infrared precipitation with stations--a new environmental record for monitoring extremes.
Chris Funk,Pete Peterson,Martin Landsfeld,Diego Pedreros,James P. Verdin,Shraddhanand Shukla,Gregory Husak,James Rowland,Laura Harrison,Andrew Hoell,Joel Michaelsen +10 more
TL;DR: The Variable Infiltration Capacity model, a novel blending procedure incorporating the spatial correlation structure of CCD-estimates to assign interpolation weights, is presented and it is shown that CHIRPS can support effective hydrologic forecasts and trend analyses in southeastern Ethiopia.
OtherDOI
A quasi-global precipitation time series for drought monitoring
Chris Funk,Pete Peterson,Martin Landsfeld,Diego Pedreros,James P. Verdin,James Rowland,Bo E. Romero,Gregory Husak,Joel Michaelsen,A. Verdin +9 more
TL;DR: This paper presents a procedure for blending stations to produce the CHIRPS and some examples of the stations used in this procedure can be found in the literature.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of land performance in Senegal using multi-temporal NDVI and rainfall series
TL;DR: In this article, a strong relationship exists between annual rainfall and season-integrated normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) for all of Senegal (r=0.74 to 0.90).
Journal ArticleDOI
Recognizing the Famine Early Warning Systems Network: Over 30 Years of Drought Early Warning Science Advances and Partnerships Promoting Global Food Security
Chris Funk,Shraddhanand Shukla,Wassila M. Thiaw,James Rowland,Andrew Hoell,Amy McNally,Gregory Husak,Nicholas S. Novella,M. E. Budde,Christa D. Peters-Lidard,Aklhalil Adoum,Gideon Galu,Diriba Korecha,Tamuka Magadzire,M. Rodriguez,Miliaritiana L. Robjhon,Endalkachew Bekele,Kristi R. Arsenault,Pete Peterson,Laura Harrison,Steven J. Fuhrman,Frank Davenport,M. F. Landsfeld,Diego Pedreros,Jossy P. Jacob,Curt Reynolds,Inbal Becker-Reshef,James P. Verdin +27 more
TL;DR: On a planet with a population of more than 7 billion, how do we identify the millions of drought-afflicted people who face a real threat of livelihood disruption or death without human intervention.
Journal ArticleDOI
Mapping irrigated areas in Afghanistan over the past decade using MODIS NDVI
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used 16-day composites of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) from the MODIS sensor to create 23-point time series for each year from 2000 through 2013.
