Mortality and Sudden Death in Pediatric Left Ventricular Noncompaction in a Tertiary Referral Center
Samuel T. Brescia,Joseph W. Rossano,Ricardo H. Pignatelli,John L. Jefferies,Jack F. Price,Jamie A. Decker,Susan W. Denfield,W. Jeffrey Dreyer,O’Brian Smith,Jeffrey A. Towbin,Jeffrey J. Kim +10 more
TL;DR: Left ventricular noncompaction has a high mortality rate and is strongly associated with arrhythmias in children, and preceding cardiac dysfunction or ventricular arrh rhythmias are associated with increased mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prevalence, Morbidity, and Mortality of Heart Failure–Related Hospitalizations in Children in the United States: A Population-Based Study
Joseph W. Rossano,Jeffrey J. Kim,Jamie A. Decker,Jack F. Price,Farhan Zafar,Daniel E. Graves,David L.S. Morales,Jeffrey S. Heinle,Biykem Bozkurt,Jeffrey A. Towbin,Susan W. Denfield,William J. Dreyer,John L. Jefferies +12 more
TL;DR: Heart failure-related hospitalizations occur in 11,000-14,000 children annually in the United States, with an overall mortality of 7%.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk Factors and Mode of Death in Isolated Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy in Children
Jamie A. Decker,Joseph W. Rossano,E. O'Brian Smith,Bryan C. Cannon,Sarah K. Clunie,Corey M. Gates,John L. Jefferies,Jeffrey J. Kim,Jack F. Price,William J. Dreyer,Jeffrey A. Towbin,Susan W. Denfield +11 more
TL;DR: In children with isolated HCM managed primarily with exercise restriction and medication, cardiac death occurred infrequently and non-SCD or transplant was at least as common as SCD and extreme left ventricular hypertrophy and blunted blood pressure response to exercise were associated with an increased risk of non- SCD.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effectiveness of mechanical circulatory support in children with acute fulminant and persistent myocarditis.
Ivan Wilmot,David L.S. Morales,Jack F. Price,Joseph W. Rossano,Jeffrey J. Kim,Jamie A. Decker,Mary Claire McGarry,Susan W. Denfield,William J. Dreyer,Jeffrey A. Towbin,Jeffrey A. Towbin,John L. Jefferies,John L. Jefferies +12 more
TL;DR: In children with acute fulminant and persistent myocarditis, MCS is a life-saving treatment strategy, particularly in the absence of viral infection.
Journal ArticleDOI
Assessment of the Cylex ImmuKnow cell function assay in pediatric heart transplant patients.
Joseph W. Rossano,Susan W. Denfield,Jeffrey J. Kim,Jack F. Price,John L. Jefferies,Jamie A. Decker,E. O'Brian Smith,Sarah K. Clunie,Jeffrey A. Towbin,William J. Dreyer +9 more
TL;DR: The CICFA is not predictive of AR or significant infections in pediatric heart transplant patients and cannot be recommended as part of the routine management of pediatric heart transplants patients.
