Aspect] is a simple and practical aspect-oriented extension to Java With just a few new constructs, AspectJ provides support for modular implementation of a range of crosscutting concerns. In AspectJ's dynamic join point model, join points are well-defined points in the execution of the program; pointcuts are collections of join points; advice are special method-like constructs that can be attached to pointcuts; and aspects are modular units of crosscutting implementation, comprising pointcuts, advice, and ordinary Java member declarations. AspectJ code is compiled into standard Java bytecode. Simple extensions to existing Java development environments make it possible to browse the crosscutting structure of aspects in the same kind of way as one browses the inheritance structure of classes. Several examples show that AspectJ is powerful, and that programs written using it are easy to understand.

An overview of AspectJ

Digital watermarking is a key ingredient to copyright protection. It provides a solution to illegal copying of digital material and has many other useful applications such as broadcast monitoring and the recording of electronic transactions. Now, for the first time, there is a book that focuses exclusively on this exciting technology. Digital Watermarking covers the crucial research findings in the field: it explains the principles underlying digital watermarking technologies, describes the requirements that have given rise to them, and discusses the diverse ends to which these technologies are being applied. As a result, additional groundwork is laid for future developments in this field, helping the reader understand and anticipate new approaches and applications.

The objective of this paper is to give a comprehensive introduction to applied cryptography with an engineer or computer scientist in mind. The emphasis is on the knowledge needed to create practical systems which supports integrity, confidentiality, or authenticity. Topics covered includes an introduction to the concepts in cryptography, attacks against cryptographic systems, key use and handling, random bit generation, encryption modes, and message authentication codes. Recommendations on algorithms and further reading is given in the end of the paper. This paper should make the reader able to build, understand and evaluate system descriptions and designs based on the cryptographic components described in the paper.

Lockpicking forensics is currently a completely manual process, which requires a lot of skill as well as training and is therefore time-consuming as well as expensive. In this paper we make a first move to transfer the most crucial part of this specific forensic process, the contactless aquisition and analysis of traces on locking pins, into the domain of digitized forensics. To do so, we introduce a new five stage processing methodology for semi- or fully-automated lockpicking forensics. Our methodology consists of: trace positioning, acquisition, detection of traces with segmentation (or region of interest determination), determination of the trace type and the determination of the used opening methods. Within this pipeline the last three stages constitute a hierarchy of pattern recognition (PR) problems. In this paper we propose a solution approach for the Trace Positioning, Contacless Acquisition and the first of the three PR problems - the detection of traces with segmentation (or region of interest determination) on which the other two are depending. To implement this segmentation, we use texture recognition with gray-level-co-occurrence matrices to blockwisely describe the texture imposed by toolmarks with adequate features. By that we are able to distinguish between regions including potential traces and regions without relevant traces. With our presented approaches for an automated contactless acquisition and trace detection, we support and improve the classical manual forensic investigation in the field of lockpicking forensics in regards of effort, objectivity and reliability. Additionally, it creates a solid base for future work dealing with trace type determination and opening method classification. We evaluate our approach with a physical test set of 15 lock pins, from locks opened with three different opening methods. On this limited test set our approach achieves True Positive Rates of up to 85% for the detection of potentially trace wielding regions. This first result, although it still leaves room for improvement, constitutes and shows a positive tendency for a seminal first step towards semi- or fully-automated lockpicking forensics.

Active fingerprinting combines digital media watermarking and codes for collusion-secure customer identification. This requires specialized strategies for watermark embedding to lessen the thread of attacks like marked media comparison or mixing. We introduce basic technologies for fingerprinting and digital watermarking and possible attacks against active fingerprinting. Based on this, we provide test results, discuss the consequences and suggest an optimized embedding method for audio fingerprinting. INTRODUCTION Robust digital watermarking is the enabling technology for a number of approaches related to copyright protection mechanisms: Proof of ownership on copyrighted material, detection of the originator of illegally made copies and monitoring the usage of the copyrighted multimedia data are typical examples where watermarking is applied. A general overview about digital watermarking can be found in a variety of existing publications, for example in Cox, Miller and Bloom (2002) or Dittmann, Wohlmacher and Nahrstedt (2001). While stopping the reproduction of illegal copies may be the first goal for copyright holders, discouraging pirates from distributing copies is the more realistic goal today. It can be observed that current copy protection or digital rights management systems tend to fail in stopping pirates (Pfitzmann, Federrath, & Kuhn, 2002). One important reason for this is the fact that media data usually leave a controlled digital environment when they are consumed, enabling analogue copies of high quality of material protect with digital mechanisms. Under these circumstances, the challenge is to find the most discouraging method making it especially dangerous for pirates to distribute copies. Identification of a copyrighted work by embedding a watermark or retrieving a passive fingerprint (Allamanche, Herre, Helmuth, Fröba, Kasten, & Cremer, 2001) is necessary for preventing large-scale production of illegal CD or DVD copies, but does not stop people from distributing single copies or uploading them to filesharing networks. Here a method that enables the copyright holder to trace an illegal copy to its source would be much more effective, as pirates would loose their anonymity and therefore have to fear detection and punishment. Embedding unique customer identification as a watermark into data to identify illegal copies of documents is called fingerprinting. Basically, watermarks, labels or codes embedded into multimedia data to enforce copyright must uniquely identify the data as property of the copyright holder. They also must be difficult to be removed, even after various media transformation processes. Thus the goal of a label is to always remain present in the data. Digital fingerprinting, which embeds customer information into the data to enable detection of license infringement, raises the additional problem that we produce different copies for each customer. Attackers can compare several fingerprinted copies to find and destroy the embedded identification string by altering the data in those places where a difference was detected. In this chapter, we introduce a method for embedding customer identification into multimedia data: Active digital fingerprinting is a combination of robust digital watermarking and the creation of a collision-secure customer vector. In literature we also find the term collusion secure fingerprinting or coalition attack secure fingerprinting. There is also another mechanism often called fingerprinting in multimedia security, the identification of content with robust hash algorithms; see for example in Haitsma, Kalker and Oostveen (2001). Design Principles for Active Audio and Video Fingerprinting

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 9th ACM Multimedia and Security Workshop -- ACM MMS 2) identify, critical high impact research problems addressing specified deficiencies in the field of secure multimedia distribution and consumption; and 3) formulate target applications of identified technologies in both the commercial, civilian, and military sectors.

The call for papers attracted 52 submissions from Asia, Europe, Canada and the United States. The program committee accepted 26 papers that cover a variety of topics, including steganography and covert communication, authentication and forensics, security primitives and encryption, digital watermarking and attacks on multimedia and their systems. We hope that these proceedings will serve as a valuable reference for security researchers and developers.

It is clear that multimedia security is a field of diverse activity in which innovations in applied signal processing interact with cryptography and networking. These proceedings are intended to provide an overview of the area through an exposition of timely research in the field. We hope that this collection inspires continued research, debate, and increased interaction among the diverse parties involved in its evolution.
