Aspect] is a simple and practical aspect-oriented extension to Java With just a few new constructs, AspectJ provides support for modular implementation of a range of crosscutting concerns. In AspectJ's dynamic join point model, join points are well-defined points in the execution of the program; pointcuts are collections of join points; advice are special method-like constructs that can be attached to pointcuts; and aspects are modular units of crosscutting implementation, comprising pointcuts, advice, and ordinary Java member declarations. AspectJ code is compiled into standard Java bytecode. Simple extensions to existing Java development environments make it possible to browse the crosscutting structure of aspects in the same kind of way as one browses the inheritance structure of classes. Several examples show that AspectJ is powerful, and that programs written using it are easy to understand.

An overview of AspectJ

Digital watermarking is a key ingredient to copyright protection. It provides a solution to illegal copying of digital material and has many other useful applications such as broadcast monitoring and the recording of electronic transactions. Now, for the first time, there is a book that focuses exclusively on this exciting technology. Digital Watermarking covers the crucial research findings in the field: it explains the principles underlying digital watermarking technologies, describes the requirements that have given rise to them, and discusses the diverse ends to which these technologies are being applied. As a result, additional groundwork is laid for future developments in this field, helping the reader understand and anticipate new approaches and applications.

The objective of this paper is to give a comprehensive introduction to applied cryptography with an engineer or computer scientist in mind. The emphasis is on the knowledge needed to create practical systems which supports integrity, confidentiality, or authenticity. Topics covered includes an introduction to the concepts in cryptography, attacks against cryptographic systems, key use and handling, random bit generation, encryption modes, and message authentication codes. Recommendations on algorithms and further reading is given in the end of the paper. This paper should make the reader able to build, understand and evaluate system descriptions and designs based on the cryptographic components described in the paper.

Der folgende Beitrag beschreibt die wichtigsten Sicherheitsanforderungen, die heutige Multimediasysteme und Multimediaanwendungen erfullen mussen. Neben den Sicherheitsanforderungen, die an IT-Systeme im Allgemeinen gestellt werden, mussen fur Multimediasysteme weitere Anforderung definiert werden, die sich durch die besondere Beschaffenheit und Komplexitat der Mediendaten aber auch der Anwendungen ergeben. Zur Erfullung der Anforderungen werden Sicherheitsmechanismen auf Basis der beiden kryptographischen Mechanismen Verschlusselung und digitale Signatur und des steganographischen Mechanismus der digitalen Wasserzeichen diskutiert. Nach einer Einfuhrung in ihre Grundlagen werden die Verfahrensparameter der digitalen Wasserzeichen beschrieben. Auf der Basis der in der Praxis und Literatur vorzufindenden Wasserzeichenverfahren wird ein Klassifikation — schema fur Wasserzeichen vorgestellt, das es ermoglicht, eine Unterteilung der verschiedenen Verfahren nach Anwendungsgebiet und Verfahrensparameter vorzunehmen. Daruber hinaus werden Angriffe auf digitale Wasserzeichenverfahren klassifiziert und Qualitatsparameter fur Wasserzeichen definiert.

Aspekte der Sicherheit multimedialer Daten und Anwendungen mittels Kryptographie und digitaler Wasserzeichentechniken

The purpose of this workshop contribution is the interaction between networked embedded systems (such as controllers, sensors and actuators within a motor vehicle) and how these can be simulated. It aims to assess the potential impacts of IT security incidents in advance and plan protective measures without having to build a complete prototype. The feasibility of recognizing and visualising possible dependencies and structural effects in a complex networked system with embedded components (in this example: A motor vehicle with CAN bus become more and more relevant. One exemplary reason is that in contrast to earlier times, now the vehicle manufacturers are acting just as a systems integrator of supply components. This could result in a leakage of the total understanding and a lost track of the networked system elements. This development is intensified by the growing number of control units, sensors and actuators, which make the complete testing of all system components and their dependencies almost impossible. Derived from this the need for a simulation model that represents these possible interactions as extensively as possible is obvious. In a first research step selected control devices on a CAN network, and related automotive sensors and actuators are modelled by simulation in order to simulate freely and selectable event sequences, e.g. to carry out as part of penetration testing to monitor possible weaknesses in the system and resulting interactions. On the latter, particular attention is given, as the security area is in the main application focus of this simulation.

Simulation of structural effects in embedded systems and visualization of dependencies according to an intended attack or manipulation

The complexity of societies, which grows in proportion to the application of new technologies, inevitably also has an effect on the lives of individuals. In this context, one key component of social interactions comes into focus: trust. Since the 1990’s, we have seen an increasing number of publications regarding the topic of trust written from a range of perspectives including those of sociology, education, philosophy, political science, and economics. Here, trust is assumed to be a basic precondition of all social processes, but when trust is not longer self-evident the relative importance of re-building trust increases in turn. In other words, trust, as a phenomenon, comes into the focus of systematic reflection.

Virtual Communities: Trust, Identity, Participation, and Technology

The development of new multimedia services and environments requires new concepts both to support the new working process on distributed computers and to protect the multimedia data during the production and distribution. This article addresses image/video authentication and copyright protection as major security demands in digital marketplaces. First we present a content-based signature technique for image and video authenticity and integrity. Based on this technique, we introduce a tool for interactive video authentication and propose content-fragile watermarking, a concept which combines watermarking and content-based digital signatures to ensure copyright protection and detection of integrity violation.
