Journal ArticleDOI

Inspiratory muscle training in patients with heart failure: meta-analysis of randomized trials

TL;DR: IMT improves functional capacity and inspiratory muscle strength thereby deserving consideration as an additional intervention in patients with CHF, however, larger and better-designed studies are needed to clarify the potential benefit of IMT in this patient population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of testosterone on lean mass gain in elderly men: systematic review with meta-analysis of controlled and randomized studies

TL;DR: The results suggest that testosterone replacement therapy is able to increase muscle mass in elderly men and that is affected by the time that the treatment is carried out and the method of administration of the drug.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation at different frequencies on heart rate variability in healthy subjects.

TL;DR: TENS modulates sympathetic and parasympathetic activity in a frequency dependent manner, verifying acute effects of high and low transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation frequencies by the evaluation of heart rate variability.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of simvastatin in the autonomic system is dependent on the increased gain/sensitivity of the baroreceptors

TL;DR: The data suggest that the reduction of sympathetic outflow in hypertension by simvastatin treatment may be triggered by structural changes in the carotid arteries and increased BRS in response to an improvement of the baroreceptors discharge and consequently of the afferent pathway of thebaroreflex arch.
