Recommendations for the routine sampling of diatoms for water quality assessments in Europe
Martyn Kelly,A. Cazaubon,E. Coring,A. Dell'Uomo,Luc Ector,B. Goldsmith,Helena Guasch,J. Hürlimann,Amelie Jarlman,B. Kawecka,Janina Kwandrans,R. Laugaste,E.-A. Lindstrøm,Maria Leitao,Petr Marvan,Judit Padisák,Eveline Pipp,J. Prygiel,Eugen Rott,Sergi Sabater,H. van Dam,J. Vizinet +21 more
TL;DR: The principles and practice of sampling are described in relation to the main habitat types encountered in Europe, and it is hoped that these provide a framework that can be adapted to most river types in Europe.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of benthic diatom communities to evaluate water quality in rivers of southern Poland
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the latest version of the 'Omnidia' database software to estimate trophic stage and degree of pollution in several streams and rivers in southern Poland.
Journal ArticleDOI
Molecular and morphological evidence for Sheathia gen. nov. (Batrachospermales, Rhodophyta) and three new species
TL;DR: It is found that heterocortication, the presence of both cylindrical and bulbous cells on the main axis, is an underlying synapomorphy of this clade Batrachospermum section Helminthoidea.
Book ChapterDOI
Diatom communities of acidic mountain streams in Poland
TL;DR: In this article, a comparison of the species composition of diatom communities developing in acidic Polish mountain streams which flow over calcium-poor substrates: sandstones in the Silesian Beskid, the Świetokrzyskie Mts, and over granite in the Karkonosze range (in the Sudetic Mts).
Journal ArticleDOI
Distribution and ecology of freshwater red algae (Rhodophyta) in some central Finnish rivers
Pertti Eloranta,Janina Kwandrans +1 more
TL;DR: Macroscopic red algae were sampled simultaneously with diatom sampling from 60 locations in central Finnish rivers and at some rivers in south coast rivers in the summers 1986, 1993 and 1994 to identify 17 red algal taxa from 5 genera.
