Journal ArticleDOI
Dynamic speciation analysis and bioavailability of metals in aquatic systems
Herman P. van Leeuwen,Raewyn M. Town,Jacques Buffle,R.F.M.J. Cleven,William Davison,Jaume Puy,Willem H. van Riemsdijk,Laura Sigg +7 more
TL;DR: It is shown that a common dynamic interpretation framework, based on rigorous flux expressions incorporating the relevant diffusion and reaction steps, is applicable for a suite of sensors that span a range of time scales.
Journal ArticleDOI
Model predictions of metal speciation in freshwaters compared to measurements by in situ techniques
Emily R. Unsworth,Kent W. Warnken,Hao Zhang,William Davison,Frank Black,Jacques Buffle,Jun Cao,R.F.M.J. Cleven,Josep Galceran,Peggy Gunkel,E.J.J. Kalis,David Kistler,Herman P. van Leeuwen,Michel Martin,Stéphane Noël,Yusuf Nur,Niksa Odzak,Jaume Puy,Willem H. van Riemsdijk,Laura Sigg,Erwin J. M. Temminghoff,Mary-Lou Tercier-Waeber,Stefanie Toepperwien,Raewyn M. Town,Liping Weng,Hanbin Xue +25 more
TL;DR: Predictions of dominant metal species using the two models agreed reasonably well, even when colloidal oxide components were considered, and Concentrations derived using GIME were generally lower than those from DGT, consistent with calculations of the lability criteria that take into account the smaller time window available for the fluxto GIME.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparison of analytical techniques for dynamic trace metal speciation in natural freshwaters
Laura Sigg,Frank Black,Jacques Buffle,Jun Cao,R.F.M.J. Cleven,William Davison,Josep Galceran,Peggy Gunkel,E.J.J. Kalis,David Kistler,Michel Martin,Stéphane Noël,Yusuf Nur,Niksa Odzak,Jaume Puy,Willem H. van Riemsdijk,Erwin J. M. Temminghoff,Mary-Lou Tercier-Waeber,Stefanie Toepperwien,Raewyn M. Town,Emily R. Unsworth,Kent W. Warnken,Liping Weng,Hanbin Xue,Hao Zhang +24 more
TL;DR: Techniques involving in situ measurements (GIME-VIP) or in situ exposure (DGT, DMT, and HFPLM) appear to be appropriate in avoiding artifacts which may occur during sampling and sample handling.
Journal ArticleDOI
Dissolution Kinetics and Solubility of ZnO Nanoparticles Followed by AGNES
Calin David,Josep Galceran,Carlos Rey-Castro,Jaume Puy,Encarnació Companys,José Salvador,Josep Monné,Rachel Wallace,Alex Vakourov +8 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the presence of gradient and Nernstian equilibrium stripping (AGES) was used to measure the Zn2+ concentration resulting from dissolution of ZnO nanoparticles dispersed in aqueous salt solutions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Voltammetric lability of metal complexes at spherical microelectrodes with various radii.
TL;DR: In this article, a geometrical analysis of the random walk of free metal ions produced by the dissociation of the complex is presented, and the lability criterion is shown to be in accordance with the geometrically derived reaction layer concept.
