TL;DR: Both computer simulations and optical experiments are presented, proving the discrimination abilities for this implementation of minimum average correlation energy filtering to rotation-invariant color pattern recognition.
Abstract: Minimum average correlation energy filtering is applied to rotation-invariant color pattern recognition. A method of derivation of the circular-harmonic component minimum average correlation energy filter for an arbitrary order is introduced. This filter has the advantage of being useful for several color channels simultaneously. Both computer simulations and optical experiments are presented, proving the discrimination abilities for this implementation.

TL;DR: A real filter based on MRH is designed, which has the same scale invariance as the conventional complex MRH filters, with the main advantage of its simplicity.
Abstract: Several theoretical and experimental studies are developed in order to simplify the construction of filters based on Mellin radial harmonics (MRH) for scale-invariant pattern recognition. A real filter based on MRH is designed. The impulse response of the filter is a hermitic function, obtained by a suitable modification of a MRH component. This real filter has the same scale invariance as the conventional complex MRH filters, with the main advantage of its simplicity. Both computer simulations and optical experiments are presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, a minimum average correlation energy filter is proposed for colour pattern recognition, which provides a delta-like correlation peak for the transmittance of the target when illuminated with several wavelengths, while minimizing the whole correlation plane energy.
Abstract: A minimum average correlation energy filter is proposed for colour pattern recognition. The filter is designed to provide a delta-like correlation peak for the transmittance of the target when illuminated with several wavelengths, while minimizing the whole correlation plane energy. Thus, the filter can be used simultaneously in several monochromatic channels. The resulting correlation planes are blended using a simple pointwise technique providing a single final output plane with a very high discrimination. Computer simulations are presented.

TL;DR: In this paper, a method for improving the quality of the correlation peak is proposed, based on better determining of the harmonic expansion center and the order of the LH development, which is useful for performing optical projection invariant pattern recognition.

TL;DR: In this article, a post-heat treatment to improve the diffraction efficiency of silver halide amplitude holograms for display has been presented, which can also be applied to different kinds of matched filters used in pattern recognition tasks.
Abstract: Recently, a post-heat treatment to improve the diffraction efficiency of silver halide amplitude holograms for display has been presented. We show that the post-heat treatment can also be applied to different kinds of matched filters used in pattern recognition tasks. The post-heat treatment increases the diffraction efficiency of filters and preserves their information content at the same time. Thus its effect can be considered as a bleaching procedure. Experimental results are presented.
