TL;DR: It is concluded that atherosclerotic lesions in the thoracic aorta can readily be identified with transesophageal echocardiographic studies, and may be used serially to investigate whether dietary or pharmacologic maneuvers, or both, can shrink established atheosclerotic plaques in the abdomen.
