Bis-steroids as potential enzyme models: perylene solubilisation and dye spectral changes with aqueous solutions of some derivatives of conessine and cholic acid
TL;DR: Several bis-steroids derived from conessine or cholic acid solubilise perylene into aqueous solution without evidence of micelle formation, and cause spectral changes in pinacyanol iodide; however, these effects (characteristic of hydrophobic interaction) only on micellisation or not at all as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Ultrafast coherent control and quantum encoding of molecular vibrations in D2+ using intense laser pulses
TL;DR: In this paper, a pump-probe-type technique is proposed to manipulate the D2+ ion with ultrashort pulse sequences, which can be used to realize a vibrational qubit.
Journal ArticleDOI
Geometry- and diffraction-independent ionization probabilities in intense laser fields: Probing atomic ionization mechanisms with effective intensity matching
W. A. Bryan,S. L. Stebbings,E. M. L. English,T. R. J. Goodworth,W R Newell,Jean M. McKenna,M. Suresh,B. Srigengan,Ian Williams,I. C. E. Turcu,Jodie Smith,E. J. Divall,C. J. Hooker,A. J. Langley +13 more
TL;DR: In this article, an experimental technique for the comparison of ionization processes in ultrafast laser pulses irrespective of pulse ellipticity is presented. And the probability of recollision ionization in a linearly polarized laser pulse is discussed in terms of the Keldysh adiabaticity parameter {gamma}, and the influence of the precursor ionic states present in recollison ionization is observed.
Journal ArticleDOI
The mechanism of photolysis of benzyl halides and benzyl acetate in alcohols
David C. Appleton,Brian Brocklehurst,James McKenna,Jean M. McKenna,Stephen Thackeray,Andrew R. Walley +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the photolysis of benzyl chloride, bromide, iodide, and acetate in methanol and t-butyl alcohol has been examined, and also 3,5-dimethoxybenzyl chloride in ethanol.
Journal ArticleDOI
The mechanism of photolysis of some benzyltrimethylammonium salts in water and in alcohols
David C. Appleton,David C. Bull,Richard S. Givens,Veronica Lillis,James McKenna,Jean M. McKenna,Stephen Thackeray,Andrew R. Walley +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the photolysis of a range of benzyltrimethylammonium and 3,5-dimethoxybenzyl trimethylmonium salts in water or methanol at 253.7 nm gave typically benzyl alcohols (or benzyl methyl ethers), toluenes, bibenzyls and isomers, and di- and tri-methylammium salts.
