High-flow oxygen through nasal cannula in acute hypoxemic respiratory failure.
Jean-Pierre Frat,Arnaud W. Thille,Alain Mercat,Christophe Girault,Stéphanie Ragot,Sébastien Perbet,Gwenaël Prat,Thierry Boulain,Elise Morawiec,Alice Cottereau,Jérôme Devaquet,Saad Nseir,Keyvan Razazi,Jean-Paul Mira,Laurent Argaud,Jean-Charles Chakarian,Jean-Damien Ricard,Xavier Wittebole,Stéphanie Chevalier,Alexandre Herbland,Muriel Fartoukh,Jean-Michel Constantin,Jean-Marie Tonnelier,Marc Pierrot,Armelle Mathonnet,Gaetan Beduneau,Celine Deletage-Metreau,Jean-Christophe M. Richard,Laurent Brochard,René Robert +29 more
TL;DR: In patients with nonhypercapnic acute hypoxemic respiratory failure, treatment with high-flow oxygen, standard oxygen, or noninvasive ventilation did not result in significantly different intubation rates, and there was a significant difference in favor of high- flow oxygen in 90-day mortality.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Not Monitoring Residual Gastric Volume on Risk of Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in Adults Receiving Mechanical Ventilation and Early Enteral Feeding: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Jean Reignier,Emmanuelle Mercier,Thierry Boulain,Arnaud Desachy,Frédéric Bellec,Marc Clavel,Jean-Pierre Frat,Gaëtan Plantefève,Jean-Pierre Quenot +8 more
TL;DR: Among adults requiring mechanical ventilation and receiving early enteral nutrition, the absence of gastricVolume volume monitoring was not inferior to routine residual gastric volume monitoring in terms of development of VAP.
Journal ArticleDOI
Targeted Temperature Management for Cardiac Arrest with Nonshockable Rhythm
Jean-Baptiste Lascarrou,Hamid Merdji,Amélie Le Gouge,Gwenhael Colin,Guillaume Grillet,Patrick Girardie,Elisabeth Coupez,Pierre-François Dequin,Alain Cariou,Thierry Boulain,Noelle Brule,Jean-Pierre Frat,Pierre Asfar,Nicolas Pichon,Mickael Landais,Gaëtan Plantefève,Jean-Pierre Quenot,Jean-Charles Chakarian,Michel Sirodot,Stéphane Legriel,Julien Letheulle,Didier Thevenin,Arnaud Desachy,Arnaud Delahaye,Vlad Botoc,Sylvie Vimeux,Frédéric Martino,Bruno Giraudeau,Jean Reignier +28 more
TL;DR: Among patients with coma who had been resuscitated from cardiac arrest with nonshockable rhythm, moderate therapeutic hypothermia at 33°C for 24 hours led to a higher percentage of patients who survived with a favorable neurologic outcome at day 90 than was observed with targeted normothermia.
Journal ArticleDOI
High flow nasal cannula compared with conventional oxygen therapy for acute hypoxemic respiratory failure: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Bram Rochwerg,Bram Rochwerg,David Granton,Dominic Xiang Wang,Yigal Helviz,Sharon Einav,Sharon Einav,Jean-Pierre Frat,Jean-Pierre Frat,Armand Mekontso-Dessap,Annia Schreiber,Elie Azoulay,Alain Mercat,Alexandre Demoule,V. Lemiale,Antonio Pesenti,Antonio Pesenti,Elisabeth D. Riviello,Tommaso Mauri,Tommaso Mauri,J. Mancebo,Laurent Brochard,Karen E. A. Burns +22 more
TL;DR: In patients with acute hypoxemic respiratory failure, HFNC may decrease the need for tracheal intubation without impacting mortality, and Complications of treatment were variably reported amongst included studies, but little harm was associated with HFNC use.
