A toolkit of designs for mixing Discrete Event Simulation and System Dynamics
TL;DR: A toolkit of designs for mixing DES and SD is proposed which can be implemented as a set of questions which a modeller should ask in order to guide the choice of design and inform the associated project methodology.
Journal ArticleDOI
Change in alcohol outlet density and alcohol-related harm to population health (CHALICE).
David Lawrence Fone,Frank David John Dunstan,James White,Chris Webster,Sarah Rodgers,Shin Shim Lee,Narushige Shiode,Scott Orford,Scott Orford,Alison Lesley Weightman,Iain Brennan,Vaseekaran Sivarajasingam,Jennifer Morgan,Richard Fry,Ronan A Lyons +14 more
TL;DR: The impact of a change in the density of alcohol outlets on alcohol consumption and alcohol-related harms to health in the community in Wales is investigated and the impact on health inequalities is assessed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Change in alcohol outlet density and alcohol-related harm to population health (CHALICE): a comprehensive record-linked database study in Wales
David Lawrence Fone,Jennifer Morgan,Richard Fry,Sarah Rodgers,Scott Orford,Scott Orford,Daniel Farewell,Frank David John Dunstan,Jamie White,Vaseekaran Sivarajasingam,Laszlo Trefan,Iain Brennan,Shin Lee,Narushige Shiode,Alison Lesley Weightman,Chris Webster,Ronan A Lyons +16 more
TL;DR: Little is known about the effects of a change in outlet density on inequalities in alcohol-related health and the role of population migration, and methodological questions remain over the best way to measure outlet density and how to model the relationship with alcohol- related harms.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lessons from mixing OR methods in practice: using DES and SD to explore a radiotherapy treatment planning process
TL;DR: This paper describes a project undertaken to explore the treatment planning process using mixed OR methods, and presents insights obtained through mixing OR methods within a real-world project.
Journal ArticleDOI
Risk of suicide following an alcohol-related emergency hospital admission: an electronic cohort study of 2.8 million people
TL;DR: Emergency alcohol-related hospital admission is associated with an increased risk of suicide and identifying individuals in hospital provides an opportunity for psychosocial assessment and suicide prevention of a targeted at-risk group before their discharge to the community.
