Journal ArticleDOI

The new liver allocation system: Moving toward evidence‐based transplantation policy

TL;DR: The development and initial implementation of a continuous disease severity scale that uses objective, readily available variables to predict mortality risk in patients with end‐stage liver disease and reduce the emphasis on waiting time is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Randomized controlled trial of hand-assisted laparoscopic versus open surgical live donor nephrectomy.

TL;DR: Laroscopic donor nephrectomy is associated with a briefer, less intense, and more complete convalescence compared with the open surgical approach.
Journal ArticleDOI

Selection for and outcome of liver transplantation in alcoholic liver disease

TL;DR: It was concluded that liver transplantation is successful in selected patients with alcoholic cirrhosis, that patients who are not selected because they are "too well" need continuing surveillance as a significant decline in survival can occur 18-24 months after initial evaluation, and that patients not selected on psychiatric grounds have a significantly worse survival rate than those with transplants.
Journal ArticleDOI

The hepatic artery in liver transplantation.

TL;DR: An innovative method is described that provides increased length of the donor arterial supply without the use of an arterial graft and on the occurrence of hepatic arterial complications after liver transplantation.
