Book ChapterDOI
Physical Interactions between Stars
TL;DR: In this article, physical arguments are presented to show that two-body, tidal-capture binaries should form in abundance (Nb ~ 103) durings the evolution of globular clusters by the time that core collapse begins.
Journal ArticleDOI
Grain physics and ir dust emission in agn environments
TL;DR: In this article, a detailed treatment of dust physics on the properties and evolution of early-type galaxies containing central black holes, as determined by AGN feedback, is studied, and it is shown that during cooling ow episodes, radiation pressure on the dust in and interior to infalling shells of cold gas can greatly impact the amount of gas able to be accreted and therefore the frequency of AGN bursts.
Book ChapterDOI
Fission and the Origin of Binary Stars
TL;DR: In this paper, a brief review of the classical angular momentum problem and the statistics of upper-main-sequence binaries are presented as background for the suggestion that the close, early-type, binaries are produced by fission of rapidly rotating protostars.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spheroidal luminosities - A quantitative basis for the galaxian sequence
A. Meisels,Jeremiah P. Ostriker +1 more
TL;DR: In this article, a schema quantitatif a dimension for the classification of galaxies, based on the luminosity de la composante spheroidale, is proposed, which can be used to classify galaxies.
